I am researching my ancestors Michael Sullivan and Mary McDaniel.   Michael Sullivan left Thomastown, Kilkenny via Waterford on the Schooner Fanny in 1811, arriving in St. John's Newfoundland.

I found a record of a marriage of Michael Sullivan to Mary O'Daniel in St. John's, Newfoundland dated 1814.  The parish register states that Michael Sullivan was from Thomastown, County Kilkenny, Ireland.  Mary McDaniel was from Knocktopher, County Kilkenny.  From Michael's immigration records he would have emigrated to Newfoundland in 1811 and was born iabout 1788, as his age was given as 23.

I would like to find more information on the Sullivan and McDaniel families and would appreciate any informatoin about whom to contact in Kilkenny for information.

Thank you.

  • Hi Kathy

There are 4 records of baptisms of Michael Sullivan in Kilkenny 1788 + - 5 years on www.rootsireland.ie/:

    Michael Sulivan 1787 & Michael Sullivan 1787, 1783 & 1792 ( none from Thomastown but only the C of I & Civil records are there for that parish - no R C)

There is also a record of Mary McDaniel in 1790 but Knocktopher was not in the list of Tipperary South parishes

You need to purchase credit to view the full record but it will have the parish and POSSIBLY the parents' names - some do & some don't
