"Hello" fellow genealogy researchers. My GGG Grandparents were Richard Conolly and Margaret (Peggy) Dwyer married in Dunnamaggan in March 1832. Their son, John Joseph Connolly was baptised in Dunnamaggan, 29 June 1832. They also had a son Michael Conolly who was baptised in Dunnamaggan on 19 Nov 1833.

John Joseph Conolly, my GG Grandfather, emigrated to Australia, and arrived in Moreton Bay, Brisbane on the ship “New Great Britain” in January 1857.

 John Joseph Conolly married Mary Ann O’Neil, who was also from County Kilkenny, on 5 July 1857, in Brisbane, Australia. John Joseph’s Connolly died on the 24 June 1907. His death certificate states that he was born in Ballakay, Kilkenny, Ireland. Perhaps this is a mis-spelling of Ballyhale, Kilkenny, Ireland.  The spelling of the surname Conolly was subsequently changed by my G Grandfather to Connolly.

From my research, it seems that various Conolly families in Australia had close ties with various members of the extended Power family.

As an Australian, proud of my Irish ancestory, I am interested to learn more of the history of the Conolly / Connolly family from Dunnamaggan, Kilkenny, Ireland.
