I am looking for Michael McDonnell of Blanchevillespark, Kilkenny. My gggrandfather, Andrew, ran away at the age of 12. He got into trouble for being for school and for breaking the owner of the farm's (Viscount Clifdon) window. He came to Canada in 1846, married and lived in Low, Quebec.
I have been looking for Andrew just in case his father's name was not Michael. He was born anywhere from 1820 - 26. .
I am going to look in County Cork as well.

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Have you tried looking in Church records for Andrew? If you could find his birth/baptismal cert his father's name should be listed on it.
Most Catholic records are held locally. One website which may help you is the irishtimes website where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Gowran parish follow this link:
For Church of Ireland regards check:

Some other websites which may help your search are:

I hope that this helps. Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. Thank you so much! I have found a birth of Andrew McDonnell, son of Michael McDonnell and Catherine Corkery i think that is her last name. The birth year matches up with census records in Canada, 1823. His sponsor was Andrew McDonnell. I am now looking for the Marriage of his parents. The birth was registered in Leighlin Bridge. Have to do further work to see if there were siblings.

The mother’s name is Catherine McCormick rather than Corkery. I found the record in The NLI Catholic Registry. I can’t see the church name. The page says Feb.12, 1823. Father is Michael. Sponsors were Andrew McDonnell and Sarah Wall. There seems to be a street address but I can’t make the name out. There is a John McDonnell at what might be the same street. Brother of Michael? Relative?
I will be looking at the records before and after this notice. Try to find the birth order.
Andrew’s descendants now know as McDonald live all over Canada as well as in the states!
Thank you so much for any help.

Hi Patty,
I am descended from McDonalds (McDonnells) in Gowran as well, possibly cousins to yours, and I'm reasonably certain that I have McDonald relatives in Canada. (I'm in the US.) Actually, my folks were from the area that is now Clara parish, but I was browsing Gowran and caught the name.
Do you have a tree anywhere that I might be able to compare with mine? Mine is here, and it should link directly to my 3rd ggf.
Best,
Kelly

Hi KellyMac
Sorry to be so late in relying. Our McDonald I think might be born in Leighlin Bridge rather than Gowan. The time 1823 seems to fit with his age in a census report. His father’s name was Michael and his mother was Catherine Corkery.
There is a site with the name Nebecker . She is a McDonald and while I don’t know the exact site, have a webpage with all sorts of information. It is shown as a house with various rooms having various types of information.
My ancestor site has lapsed. I have to get it going again. Then I will send you the page.
Hope you find some more information. Patty Anne.
