I am searching for information/records for my paternal great grandfather John Blanchfield who was born about 1838 in Kilkenny and died in 1911 in Coan West, Kilkenny.  He was a farmer and he had two unmarried sisters, Alice and Mary who lived with him. He and Rose Tobin of Castlecomer had one child, John Blanchfield (my grandfather) born illegitimately in Baurnafea in 1870.  There may also have been a second son, William Blanchfield.  Rose may have married someone else later on. The name Laurence Dunne is a possible husband.

Any help or advice on where to search would be greatly appreciated .

Barbara, a few years ago we stayed in a B&B (across from Jerpoint Abbey) owned by the Blanchfields. I learned since then that Mr. Blanchfield died but Mrs. B is a wealth of information about area families. I would suggest you write to her.  The Blanchfield name is well known in that part of the county.  Here is the contact info:

    Hello Barbara,

The above reference is great, if you haven't come across it yet. You might have some luck with it. My gggrandmother was a Blanchville. From Muckalee, Knocktopher, Kilkenny. Her father was a Patrick. I have her on Ireland xo, if you want to look her up, with a photo. She emigrated to Australia.
