Paddy O'Shea has recently had an old gate sandblasted, removing layers of tar. It revealed a name on the gate:
T POWER & SON
KILKENNY
Paddy would love to know more about the blacksmith and the possible age of the gate. Any information is greatly appreciated!

A possible match in Kilkenny from Slater's 1894 directory - Thomas Power and Son, engineers, ironmongers &c, High Street. The same listings are included in the 1884 and 1870 editions - I didn't see a good match for Thomas on the 1901 census in Kilkenny, so possibly had died sometime before this

I have a document on blacksmiths the author is Dan McEvoy from Kilkenny. I had the privilege of meeting Danny a few years ago and visited with him on my many visits to Kilkenny.
The article is called "Kilkenny Archaelogical Society and is on the Blacksmiths of Kilkenny. I found it on the inernet before I met Danny who happened to be very close to my counsins John and Sammy Kerwin in the city of Kilkenny.
I assume you can stil find the material, I only printed off the pages relating to my Conry family.
The page was updated March 22, 2010.
Let me know if you have problems and I will try myself to help you.
PS Danny passed away a few years ago.
