Hello,

I'm searching for any information about Thomas Griffin born in 1803 in Kilkenny Ireland. He arrived in Australia in 1833 as a convict. His trial was in Kilkenny (not the city) on 15 March 1833 when he was convicted for an attempt to rob and sentenced to transportation to Australia for life. He was a farm servant and boatman; he had a former conviction for 3 months but I cannot find any records for either conviction. He had a wife Bridget and three children - 2 girls and a boy. One daughter I know nothing of. The other was Anastasia born 1829 and son, Luke born in 1831. Anastasia and Luke migrated to Australia in 1850 and their mother was , by then, deceased.

I am hoping that the court records may reveal information about this family but at this stage I've had no success trying to locate, from Australia, any records for Thomas' trials. Can anyone assist with my search please?

    Hello again!

I checked the court records on Find My Past for Thomas Griffin (or variant) in Co. Kilkenny and the earliest record they had was for a Thomas Griffin in 1852.

You may want to check with the main library in Kilkenny and see if they are aware of the availability of court records back to 1833.  http://www.kilkennylibrary.ie/eng/
