I see the above texts are now over 10 years old. Wondering if there is any update.
My great-grandfather William Connell was born in 1828 in Tullaghought, parish of Windgap, to John Connell and Ellen 'Nelly' Walsh. He had two sisters Ellen and Margaret. William joined the 17th Foot in Clonmel in 1847, served in Crimea, BNA and the Curragh/Newbridge where he retired in 1870. His grand-parents may have been David O'Connell from Mooncoin area and Margaret Mangan.William married Mary Burke in Mayo in 1850 where he was stationed. A fellow soldier Michael Cleary married Ellen Burke in same place, Ballyovey, 10 days earlier with William as witness. Cleary and family settled in Canada. it's unknown where the Burke girls were from.
Hoping this might be useful to someone or someone may have a bit of info for me.
