Greetings,
I am trying to get information on two ancestors from Ballyadams:
Patrick Ryan, born about 1770 and his wife Mary McCan (sp?). These would be my 4th great grandparents.
In advance, thank you for any assistance.

Hello Paul,
My name is Paddy Lacey, the parish liaison for Ballyadams. Apologies for the long delay in responding. I am afraid that the outlook for information about this query is not good. The main problem is that the date you gave is way before either civil or church records. Civil records began in Ireland in 1864 and church records for Ballyadams commenced in 1820, so you can see the difficulty. An additional problem is the name of Murphy, it is the most plentiful surname in Ireland and looking at the Ballyadam's records it occurs several times. The other name of McCan (usually spelled McCann in Ireland) is not very common and I could not find it in Ballyadams. Would you have any other information that might assist in bridging the record gap, such as a placename in the parish or any details from any correspondence that might have passed between U. S. and Ireland?.
Sorry that I cannot be of greater assistance.
Best wishes,
Paddy Lacey.
