Hello - I am looking for the ancestors of James Woods and Ann Cosgrove. They immigrated from Ireland to Canada at the beginning of the 1800's. The information I have now is: James was born about 1818 or 1819 in Queens County. He immigrated - or at least entered Canada - in 1838 in New Brunswick.  Ann, and a daughter, Catherine, immigrated in 1844, going first to Quebec city and then to New Brunswick. Catherine was born in 1836. We believe she was James' child. All three claim to have come from Queens County Ireland. A parish is not mentioned in the records. I hope you can help me with this. The record I've tried on-line for Ireland haven't been enough for me to find which parish they came from.

Thank you very much.

  • Also, James Woods had two brothers, Thomas and Michael, who also immigrated to Canada. Thomas came over in 1830.

  • Hi Carroll,

I just did a quick google search for Ann and James and to my astonishment I found this. James and Ann were my great great grandparents!  The information I remember just offhand - I can confirm dates later - is that James and Ann and their daughter Kate (Catherine) came over from Klonakilty Count Cork.  James is buried in the Catholic cemetary in Nelson, New Brunswick.  We have been puzzled for many years as to where Ann is buried.  They had 2 more children - one of them being my great grandfather, Patrick.

I am quite certain Thomas settled in this are as well but not so sure about Michael.

This is so very interesting and I would love to communicate more with you

  • I have the family tree on Wikitree.com  I've also done a fair bit on Patrick's descendants. We could communicate better there.
