I am researching the ancestors of my maternal Grt Grandfather, Anthony CONROY.  Anthony CONROY was born in Queen's County, B:1856.  Anthony's father is recorded on Anthony's marriage certificate as Patrick, his mother's name is elligible; however in a transcript of Anthony's Death certificate, his parents are listed as John and Mary (nee: Roe) CONROY.

Anthony CONROY immigrated to New Zealand in 1874, departing from London, Graves End on a ship named Conflict.

I do not have any evidence that Anthony CONROY came from Portlaoise/Maryborough, but  these place names are familiar to me.

I am hoping to find some evidence to confirm this parish and parent;s names.

I think we may be looking for the same Anthony Conroy.

Our Anthony Conroy Married Annie Cavanagh in 1890. He was born 1856 and Died in 1942, Buried at taita Cemetry,

They have 5 Children that we know of

    Mary Conroy

    Winifred Ann Conroy 1895

    Anthoney Patrick Conroy 1895

    Francis Edward Eden 1901

    ALbert Joseph George COnroy 1904

We are looking at how he arried in NZ and found that an anthony arrived in 1874 on board the conflict,

Anthony Conroy is my partners Great Grandfather, and Francis Edward Eden being his grandfather

  • Hi Julie

Yes we have the same man.  My grandfather is Francis Edward Eden.  His daughter, Frances (nee: conroy) Coyne is my mother.

Our family is in Lower Hutt, where the Taita cemetery is based.

    Cool.

  • Hi

I started looking into the conroy family history for my partner  Paul, his father is Tony Conroy ( Anthony). So you and Paul will be Cousins.

I did notice that Anthony Conroy must have had an incorrect age on the ships manifest when he arrived in NZ. he was listed as 21 years old in 1874, Which would have made his birth in 1853, They used to do that alot back in the day. it also stated that he had a promisery note of 14 pound 10 pence, so he was goverment assisted over on the Conflict and owed that money back to the government.

have you a copy of Anthoney marriage and death cert, We would ike to get a copy if possible. And are you able to advise where at taita cemetry they are. We went there this morning and had a wonder around. The only Conroy we found was Anthony JOhn Patrick Conroy and his wife, which was Francis Edward Eden brother
