Hello everyone, I,m trying to find any details of my Great Grandfather born Patrick Phelan in 1833 in Raheen. By 1851 he had moved to England and was on the 1851 census, based at Parkhurst barracks on the Isle of Wight. He married my Great Grandmother Esther Craddock in 1854 in Birmingham, Warwickshire. I can find the family on 1861 census living in Enfield Middx employed at Royal Small arms factory in Enfield. From there onwards he does not appear on any census records until Esther declares herself a widow in 1891, although is named on further childrens birth certificates. I would be very grateful if anyone knows anything about his family before coming to England. His father was named John and mother Mary.

                              Thanks for reading this, Jeanette.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I checked Roots Ireland from 1828-1838 in Co. Laois and the only Patrick Phelan with parents John and Mary is the 1828 record below. Camross RC parish is to the northeast of Raheen RC parish. Here is the link to the online parish register for Raheen in case you would like to search the register for Patrick.http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0725

  • Hi Roger, thank you so much for your prompt reply, as his birth year and parish are taken from the 1851 census at Parkhurst Barracks, the patrick phelan you found could well be the right one, I,ll try and investigate further. Also thanks for the link to the Parish registers for Raheen. I know his fathers name from his marriage certificate and on the 1861 census in Enfield, Mary, his mother was living with them.

Once again, thank you so much for your time and effort, I,m determined to find my Irish Great Grandfather.

                                                Jeanette.
