McGowan family from Meenagh, Glenfarne, County Leitrim.
My grandfather, Francis McGowan was born in Leitrim in 1883(?) The Census of 1901 lists him with rest of the family of Felix McGowan and Mary McGowan (Flynn) in Meenagh.
So far I have been unable to make a connection to the other McGowan households in Meenagh at that time or the various McGowans listed in the Griffiths Valuations and the Tithe Applotments.
Griffiths Valuation: Fras Jas, Francis T. and Phelim.
Tithe Applotment 1823: James, Patt and Terence.
I have also viewed baptisms and marriages for Cloonclare on registers.nli.ie with limited success so far. I found Felix and Mary’s marriage in 1880 and possible baptisms for Felix and Francis and will persevere with this source.
I would be grateful for any advice or information that anybody can provide.
Thank you,
Simon McGowan.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I looked up the marriage on Roots Ireland. The marriage was on February 21, 1881. The father of Felix was Owen and the father of Mary Flynn was Michael Flynn. I will look for other records later and get back to you.

Simon:
The 1881 civil marriage record showed Corracloona as the townland for Felix and his father as Owen. There are a number of Owen McGowan marriage records on Roots in Leitrim so I can't narrow down the record without knowing his wife's name. However, I note that the 1857 Griffiths for Cloonclare shows an Owen McGowan in Corracloona so I think that is the father of Felix. Meenagh is about three kilometers southeast of Corracloonagh and closer if you cut thru fields. Possibly Owen's inlaws came from Meenagh and that is why Owen settled in Meenagh.

This link takes you to the Tithe records in Cloonclare. There are a number of McGowans in Curracloon which is likely Corracloona.

Sorry for not replying before but I have not had internet access for a few days.
Thanks for your very prompt replies.. I had half expected Felix's father to be called Francis, the name of the oldest son listed in the 1901 census. One child did not survive in Felix and Mary's family so perhaps he was called Owen.
Thanks very much for all the information. If I find out anything else I will post it for any future researchers.

Hi.
I know this post was several years ago. I am the grand daughter of Mary Anne McGowan who was your father's sister. She got married to Edward Keaney and then moved to Liverpool where she had three children. Am happy to message.
