Looking for information on a Mary(Feele) Dowd.According to the GVR her land lord was a Michael Jones. County Leitrim,Barony Drumahaire, Union Manorhanilton, Parish Inishmagrath, Townland Glackaunadarragh,Place Name Glackaunadarragh, Place Type Townland.

Position on page 25, Printing Date 1857, Act 15&16, Sheet Name 20,17 Map Reference 8.

I cannot locate any information on Mary's family,(Dowd/Feele) before 1857.  I believe her husband was Rodger(Roger) Dowd, they may had a son James Dowd B1825/1830.

Thanks

Michael

It may be difficult to locate any church records because the Inishmagrath RC records are only available from 1835-1839 and then pick up around 1880. I checked on Roots Ireland and there were a couple of Dowd baptismal records in 1836 and 1838 but the parents were not Roger and Mary.

The 1901 census for Glackaunadarragh showed three Dowd families. Not sure if any of the heads of household were children of Roger and Mary.

  • Hi Michael,

I don’t have any information about Mary Dowd/Feele or Rodger Dowd. But I have been researching Glackaun records online for a while because I think my Layden ancestors came from there. As the families intermarried, I am looking at anything I can find on Glackaun, regardless of the family name.

There was a baptism in the Inishmagrath church records for 1838 of Hugo Dowd, son of Thomas Dowd and Mary Daly. Hugh Dowd was still there in the 1901 census.   So it is possible that the Mary Dowd shown in Glackaun in Griffiths was born Mary Daly, and that the two Dowd plots in Griffiths were owned by husband and wife.

There is a death registration in Irishgenealogy for Mary Dowd aged 67 in 1868, registered in Manorhamilton. But again, it might not be the same person.

Do you have any more information you can share about Mary Dowd/Feele?

    Regards,

    Iain Layden
