Hello, my great grandfather Edward Browne left Aughyoula Outeragh in 1885 as a 15 year old his parents wer Elizabeth Guy( various spelliings on her children’s birth records) and Robert Browne. They were Protestant.Elizabeth Guy/Grey was Robert Brownes 2nd wife? His first being Elizabeth McTeague with whom he had 4 children she died in 1851. I can find no records for this marriage or the McTeague family she may be from. Robert Browne born abt 1803, to Robert Browne and unknown mother, then married  Elizabeth Guy/Grey having abt 13 more children from 1855-1878. Most of these children ? left Ireland.  Robert Browne died in 1892 27 Dec in Aughyoula oughteragh. Elizabeth died in 1903. In the 1901 census she is living in Outeragh with 2  servants in her household. Did all her children leave I have only been able to trace three.Did any Brownes remain in  Oughteragh?Hoping to find family, thanking you Thea.

    Hello again!

I lcoated the marriage record for the second marriage to Elizabeth Guy January 5, 1853 on the subscription site Roots Ireland but did not find a reocrd for the first marriage. The Oughteragh Church of Ireland records are available on Roots Ireland starting 1833. Possibly Robert and Elizabeth McTeague married prior to 1833 or they married in a parish which does not have records that far back. I also located two baptismal records for children of the Brown/McTeague union (see below). I also located five civil birth records for children of Robert and Elizabeth Guy: Patrick 1864 Emily 1868 David 1871 Robert 1872 Joseph 1875. You can go to the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie under the Civil records Tab and find the civil birth records for these children. By 1864 the family was living in Kildorragh townland in Oughteragh civil parish.

In looking at the 1901 census, there are five Brown/Brown families in Corgar townland and one in Knockanroe townland. Not sure how they connect to your Browns.

I did find an index record to the civil record for the 1853 marriage. Elizabeth Guy was shown as Elizabeth Grey. Images of civil marriage records on www.irishgenealogy.ie only go back to 1870 now but in the coming months we hope that images will be added back to 1845.

Hello Roger, again thankyou for locating the records of the Brownes of Outeragh. I did find the birth records of most of the children, but couldnt’ locate Patrick Browne born in 1864? None of the records seemed to be son of Robert Browne/Elizabeth Guy. The other Browns in the census returns you mentioned may be Robert Brownes Uncles, I think his father Robert Browne snr. had brothers living in Corgar, and  Knockanroe. Apparently they all named many of their children with the same  names which makes it quite tricky trying to unravel who belongs to which family! Thanks for the links it has been a great help!                                                  Kind regards, Thea
