I had Dalton ancestors in Abbeyfeale in the early 1800's. Johanna Dalton was married to Daniel Harnett. Johanna and Daniel's last child, Brigit Harnett, was baptized in the R.C. Church in Abbeyfeale on March 10, 1832. Johanna and Daniel appear later in the 1830's as sponsors at two other Harnett baptisms. After that, they disappear from the records, as far as I know. They were probably dead by the time all of their children left Abbeyfeale for America in 1853. I am descended from their daughter, Margaret, who was born in 1824. I am almost 80 now and live in the U.S. I have known Johanna Dalton and Daniel Harnett;s names all of my life, but I know almost nothing about them.
Recently I saw a Vimeo on line, made by Jer Kennelly of Abbeyfeale in 2017. The lady reading the history, stated that Richard Ellis was the landlord in Abbeyfeale from the late 1700's on, and that the Daltons were his agents.
I am hoping that someone could tell me the name of the Dalton man who was agent in 1800, and whether the Daltons were still agents in 1850 (and their names). Do records about the agents exist?
Thank you.

Please Google the following records which my assist you:
1 - West Limerick Heritage 2. Echoes of Abbeyfeale 3. Athea, Glin and Abbefeale - Dalton - Ireland RO dated February 22nd 2013 (Seeking members of the "Dalton" family - www.daltondatabank.org (Dalton's in County Limerick from early times)
Major Richard Ellis purchased the property in Abbeyfeale in 1770. It was later distributed to local parishioners.
I have downloaded those record, but unable to Post them!
I have not found any record of the Agent for the Ellis property.
Presently there is an accommodation house named "Dalton's" on the Killarney Road, Abbeyfeale.

Ann,
Further to previous Post, A James H. Dalton was a Land Agent in Abbeyfeale in 1891. In Guy's Directory 1893 he is described as a (J.P.) - Justice of the Peace. In 1880 a will made by a Patrick Moone nominated him as one of his executors.
Grtiffith's land Valuations has an Erica Dalton in Abbeyfeale West. She is recorded with a House, Office and Land - 137 acres and also a house which is vacant. The record is written in 1852, but is is likely that the details were taken earlier. The lease is with a Richard Ellis. There is also a James Dalton recorded in that townland.

McCoy,
Thank you very much for the information and the links, which I have now read. Like you, I was unable to see anything indicating who was an agent for the Ellis landlords.
I did note that in 1852 Erica Dalton was the tenant of a house, office, and 137 acres of land in Abbeyfeale West owned by Richard Ellis and that hers was the largest acreage with the largest annual value of any on the page. Through the Dalton Genealogical link I noticed that they claim Griffith's Valuation of 1852 shows James Dalton was the tenant of the 137 acres in Abbeyfeale West and that Erica is not mentioned. I don't know whether that means that Erica and James were husband and wife, or mother and son. Again, I don't know whether having the largest acreage means he was Ellis's agent.
Also, I still cannot link my Johanna Dalton, born about 1790 or 1800 and married to Dan Harnett, to any of these other Daltons. But thank you so much for your help.

Ann,
I have been unable to find any reference to a James Dalton leasing 137 acres of land in Abbeyfeale West. The only entry I found for him was No. 43 in Main Street where he is leasing a house and garden from Edmond Hartnett.
The Tithe records record a Henry Dalton leasing 62 acres from Thomas Ellis and a Dan Hartnett leasing 25 acres.
There is a death record for a Mrs James Dalton in 1840 and a James Dalton in 1843 for a James Dalton.
The "H" in the name of James H. Dalton may refer to this "Henry" in the Tithe records which relate to the years 1823 to 1837.

Ann,
I don't know anything about Johanna Dalton. However, I do know that my 2nd greatgrandmother Margaret Harnett or Hartnett was from the parrish of Abbeyfeale. She came to the US between 1840 and 1850 with her unnamed sister. Do you know who your Dan Harnett's parents or siblings were?

Beth,
My Margaret Hartnett, daughter of Johanna Dalton and Dan Hartnett, was born in Abbeyfeale around 1824. She was married to Michael Quirke February 2, 1838 (yes, very young), and they came to the U.S. in 1853 with 7 children. They settled in Exeter, N.H. and had 4 more children there. Later they moved to Massachusetts.
Margaret Hartnett Quirke's sisters, as far as I know, were Johanna Hartnett (who married John Toomey), Brigit M. Hartnett (who married John Harrington), and Mary Hartnett (who married John Welsh).
I don't know the names of her aunts and uncles (siblings of Dan Hartnett).
