Hello
My Grandfather John Halpin was born in Adare June 14, 1869, he and his family ( his father and Mother and siblings) imigrated to New Zealand.in 1877
His Father My Great Grandfather was also called John Halpin Born 1835, and he married Mary Ann Normalie.
Mary ann died on the passage to NZ and John died in Napier NZ in 1926 aged 91.
I am planning a trip to the UK & ireland in August/September this year and would love to know if there is any living Family who are descendants of John Halpin and MaryAnn Normalie still living there today.
I believe my Great Grandfather John Halpin's parents were a Michael Halpin and a Johanna Dawson.
I have not found out who my Great Grandparents siblings are.
Thank you so much, any information would be very welcome

Tricia:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Do you know if your family was RC or another religion? I don't see an 1869 baptismal record in Adare RC for a John Halpin with father John. There is an 1869 civil birth index record for a John Halpin in the Croom registration district (which includes Adare). See below.
I checked the online Irish phone book and there were no Halpin records around Adare. Most were near Kilmallock.

Hi Tricia- FAMILYSEARCH has details of children born to John Halpin&Mary Anne NORMILE(irish names were sometimes misspelt in other countries) in1860/1870 period.Irish Census in 1901&1911 shows many Halpins in Limerick, some near Adare.

Thank you Roger, Yes this is my Grandfather, I believe My Grandfather lived with his parents and siblings with his Grandmother (Widow) in the Croom area on farmland.I believe they were tenants of the Earl of Dunraven.
Thank you Liam, yes they all imigrated in 1877 to NZ. I have all the children as they all came to NZ.
Mary Ann Normile died on the trip to NZ, after giving birth to a stillborn baby.John Halpin Great Grandfather lived until the ripe age of 91.
It makes it harder as not being able to see census records, it is hard to see where they were living.
Is there anyway to get census type records for this area.
Thank you Tricia

From what you say I take it that Roger has identified the birth record of your grandfather - if that is the case you might order a copy of it from the GRO. That cert should show the address of his parents at the time of his birth.
When you have the address you can look it up on the 1901/1911 census and see if any Halpins still lived there. The census can be searched free on this link http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

Hi Tricia, John Halpin was my Great great grandfather, Mary Anne Normoyle my Great great grandmother and their daughter Annie Halpin was my Great Grandmother. I too am looking for info about him, as my father (Grandson of Annie) is investigating family. We are New Zealanders who migrated (back!) to UK.
Annie married my great grandfather Henderson Wilson much to the horror of both families as Henderson was a Protestant from Bellaghy and as a result Dad saw very little of Annies siblings or their children, Annie had 9 children, and No.8 was my grandfather.
I have a feeling John had two brothers who migrated to Australia at the same time that John moved his family to NZ.
you are welcome to email me at email@pennyjwilson.co.uk

Hi Tricia and Penny.
I am also tracking this family because I have a connection to the Normoyle side of the family.
John Halpin and Mary Anne Normoyle had two sons who are of interest here - John Halpin who Tricia is descended from and Francis Patrick Halpin who married a Margaret Normoyle in Sydney in 1889.
Margaret was the daughter of David Louis Normoyle and Alicia Barry. She was born 24 Feb 1864. Her parents were married February 1862 in Croom, Limerick. Her mother died and her father remarried to a Mary Ann O'Donnell. They had a second family, some in Ireland and some in Australia. From the dates of birth of the children I would guess they emigrated about 1883. The entire family (from both the first and second marriage) appeared to have emigrated to Australia. I have David Normoyle's parents as Thomas Normoyle and Ann Lewis.
David Louis Normoyle also had a sister Johanna who emigrated to Australia. She married a man called Michael Hayes in Croom too.(they are mentioned in his obituary). She died in 1918 - her parents are also given as Thomas and Ann(e).
My interest is the family story that my great grandfather, Thomas Normoyle - son of James Normoyle and Bridget Hannan (or Shanahan) who were married 29/2/1840 in Kilcornan Parish, Stonehall, Co. Limerick Adare. James and Bridget had nine children Daniel born 16/10/1840, Bridget born 26/1/1843, Michael born 4/1/1844, Mary born 28/4/1845, Margaret born 26/12/1847, William born 27/3/1851, Catherine born 8/2/1856 , James born December 12, 1858 and Thomas born November 28, 1863. They were in the Stonehall area which is very close to Croom.
Thomas emigrated to Australia (family history suggests with three of his brothers James, Michael and William and a cousin, David). This David is either David Louis Normoyle mentioned above or his son David. I am not entirely sure as you can see by the wide range of birthdates in Thomas's family he could be the cousin of either the father or the son. I have been in contact with another Halpin/Normoyle descendant who has done his DNA test - however there was no DNA match to my mother (who was born a Normoye).
I'd be interested to explore the connections further and to compare DNA if either of you have gone that far.
Kind regards

Tricia, I believe we may be searching for the same family!
My 2x great grandfather was Laurence Jackson Halpin, born in Drogheda, Louth in 1830 and went to New Zealand about 1875. His father, I believe was Michael Halpin, and I have found some records of Michael having brothers John & Christopher.
Do you have a family tree? Mine is publicon ancestry- and I'm happy to share! Feel free to email me!
Cheers! Rebecca

Hello Rebecca
It seems that Your GG Grandfather may be the brother of my Great Grandfather John Halpin.
I have never known if he had any siblings. I do have an Ancestry.com account with a public Tree.
I have also done the Ancsetry DNA.
Would love to talk to you further.
I live in NZ.
Regards
