John:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and found baptismal records for eigth children of John and Catherine Connors from 1842-1866. A transcription of Michael's record is below. The children were as follows: Mary 1842 Catherine 1845 Michael 1849 Margaret 1854 Hanora 1857 James 1859 Johanna 1862 (likely died young) Johanna 1866 There could have beenother children but only eight showed up on my search. I did not locate a marriage record.
Catherine died in April 1886 https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1886/06245/4788202.pdf
I see two possible death records for John in 1890 and 1898. I lean towards the 1890 record.

Roger,
Thank you.
I was aware of seven names. The second Johanna was known but the first was not. Is there a chance f a burial record at Athea?
There is also a John J. Enright that we are aware of.
I noticed in the Athea Chronicles that there are several parishoners with the surname Enright. I wonder if any are distant relations.
If there is an organization in the Athea area that studies the history of the immigration from that area I wuld love to get in touch with them.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated. We have discovered a grave monument in the U.S. that memorializes Mary, Catherine, Margaret, Jame and John. Hanora.is buried in that plot but her name is not on the stone..
peace and prayers,
John E. King

John:
I doubt there would be any burial info but you should contact St. Bartholomew's church to confirm. I did find this piece of background about the church http://www.limerickdioceseheritage.org/Athea/chAthea.htm
You mentioned Athea Chronicles. Is that a local publication?

Roger,
The Athea Chronocles appear to be a parish monthly. I will contact the church direct
Are you aware of any genealogy buffs in the Athea area?
Thanks for the assistance.

Padraig,
I am still looking for death data on John Enright of Athea. His wife Catherine died in April 1886. Most of his children immigrated to the U.S. and his son Michael, born in 1849 - Athea, is my great grand father. I am looking for cemetery information and any connections to Enrights still in the area.
Thank you

Hi John,
Yes there is a cemetery ..... it is in Templeathea. This link is the gateway.
https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/2165469/templeathea-cemetery#view-p…
I have got photo's of every Enright headstone in that Graveyard, as I am an Enright by birth, it was a few years ago and I do need to go back and update my records.
There is an online site for Graves but it's up to people to add pictures dates etc.
I will look through them and see if I can find any with your family.
My Father was born in Athlacca, my Mother was from Tipperary and so was I.
It may take a few days but I will update you asap.

Margot,
Many thanks. I used Findagrave but found no record. We beieve that Catherine Enright died in 1886 in Athea or Abbeyfeale.
Any help will be appreciated. Mt mother and her sister were the last children born in the U.S. with the Enright surname from John and Catherine's children.

Hi John:
I will send a reminder to Jennifer Jean about your query. There are a number of Enright gravestones in the Athea area. If you click on Historic Graves, and search using the "Explore" tab and then the "Family" tab, you can input the Enright surname. You will note that there are 9 choices in the Athea/Clash area on the map.
I would also recommend that you check the marriages of any of the 8 children that you mentioned. A civil marriage record will give the father's name (if they married in Ireland) and this may be another way of tracing any members forward to see if they remained in the area.
All the best,
Jane

Hello John, Jane has asked me to look into your family history and in particular to the grave yards in Athea. I have a problem with that in as much as there is three cemetaries in the area but none of them can provide the information that you are looking for: however I did find Enrights by the dozen but none that followed your line of enquiry. There is Gortnagross, Rathronan - AtheaUpper -Templeathea East & also Carhooearagh which actually comes under the townland of Kilmany, Kerry.
The National Library of Ireland is updating it's records on a daily basis and I would suggest that you visit this site regularly also if you are able the Roots.ie is great for information. I believe that both Roger and Jane have done as much if not, more than I am able to at this point but will keep looking periodically
Meantime Good Luck with the leads you may find here

Hi John just a recap on all the information that goes before me here: I am not sure that anyone has advised you that the birth records for Margaret 1854 and for John 1859 are not for the children of John and Catherine but rather for the parents Thomas and Helena Kenelly or John and Mary. Obviously by this late stage you are aware of just how many Enright and Connor families that there was and still is in the Athea area so when you are looking at headstones and the like, this might help you to understand why some names appear to be missing.
I have been to the Holy Cross cemetary but I cannot see any names on the headstones clearly enough. All cemetaries here though are now being taken care of in a much better and more organised way and Athea is well ahead of many other programmes so I would urge you to keep your eyes well peeled the the Graveyards of Ireland.ie and to Roots. Also you might write a piece to the Athea Parish News directly - someone may well be able to give you better results than I.
Meantime please do let us know how you are getting on, it seems that you have found several other relatives already which is always good news
If I find out anything further I will come back to you

I am 2x great granddaughter of John Enright, b. 24 June 1814 in Limerick, Ireland. The following are details from his obituary. He came to the United States in 1836 and located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he met and married Margaret Frings, of Germany.in 1849 they moved to Highland, Wisconsin, and was mining lead ore. In 1858, he went on an exploration to Kansas, but did not find an “attractive country” to settle on, returned to Wisconsin. In 1860 he went with a party to gold mine in Idaho. After three years, he returned home via San Francisco and New York City. “Mr. Enright was blessed with good health and good luck…and brought home a considerable little fortune.” In 1866, he decided “the broad, fertile prairies of Minnesota” were to his liking, and he bought a farm at Windom, Minn. moving the family there in 1866. He later settled in Austin, Minnesota and built a house on Bridge St. with lumber hauled from Winona. He spent the rest of his life there except for a few years spent with family on the farm in Windom.
In 1932, one of John’s sons (signature looks like Patrick Henry, to me) wrote to my great aunt. He said he had letters written to her Grandpa Enright’s brother in law, Michael O’Brien, who was married to John Enright’s sister Bridget. They lived near Milwaukee,Wisconsin. One letter dated 12 May 1847 from St. Louis, Missouri was written by John’s brother William Enright. The other was written by John’s cousin Thomas Trehy from Detroit, Michigan.
Both letters make reference to another brother of John, Bridget, and William Enright. His name was Richard Enright, and it seems they had lost contact with him.
While I have found information about Michael O’Brien and his wife Bridget Enright O’Brien, I don’t know about the rest of the Enright family. Don’t know about John’s parents or siblings beside Bridget, except for the William and Richard mentioned in the letters. Also, don’t know where the Trehy family comes into the Enright family. Nor do I know where in Limerick they come from.
I’d love any help anyone could give me with my great great grandfather’s Enright family. Thank you in advance!
Susan
