Hello,

I'm not sure what parish my ancestors came from. I know that two of my ancestors were James O'Grady and Kathleen O'Grady ("Unk" maiden name).  They had a daughter named Margaret O'Grady who moved to Savannah, Ga (USA).  She married Patrick Crawford (also from Limerick) in Savannah, GA in 1843.

I am not sure the birth date of death date of James O'Grady. I know that Kathleen died in 1850.  Can you help me determine any information on my family?

Thanks,

Ashley M. Norris

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and thanks for your query

One of the difficulties in not knowing where your ancestors lived is that you cannot focus your search. As you probably know, the start date for parish records varies depending on the parish. Some records begin very early while others start relatively late. You do have some detail that may allow you to locate a marriage record for James and Kathleen and a baptism record for any of their children, including Margaret.

You could search www.familysearch.org or www.rootsireland.ie (a subscription site) for information on your O?Grady ancestors. If you find a parish or townland location from this search, you could try to locate the O?Grady family on the Tithe Applotment Books 1823-1837. The tithes were a payment on agricultural land and while they only name the head of the family they can prove useful.

Best of luck with your search
