Is there anyone who could check with the Bruff church records for my great grandfather ??
I am looking for the birth record for my Great-grandfather John Jospeh Quaid/ Quain- born about 4 Dec 1869- in Crean Limerick. His parents were William Quaid/ Quain born abt 1839 & Kate (Catherine) Fitzgibbons( b abt 1841)
No one seems to want to help me with this request ?? Not sure why ??
I am finding that this website is not very helpful :( I have been waiting and waiting for some replies but get nothing

Hi Jay,
Apologies for not getting back to you before now. Thanks to Amanda, we are up and running. There is quite a lot happening in Bruff Parish at the moment but I have asked our Parish Priest to check the Parish records for this entry. Coming up to the season of Advent and Christmas, he will be fairly busy and also, he is in his late 70's so I cannot say when he will come back to me but I will remind him at regular intervals. There is a free site called historicgraves.com which may help you if you want to try and trace other deceased members of your family.. If you click on Search, graveyard search, Country - Ireland, County - Limerick and Town - Bruff, you will get up 6 graveyards in the parish of Bruff. Select each one in turn. Substitute Grange for Bruff (2 graveyards), Meanus, Tullybracky and Knockainey for further graveyards in the vicinity of Bruff. All these graveyards have been surveyed and digitally recorded. Regretfully we do not have the resources to go through each one but you should find this site easy to use and wonderfully informative.
I will revert back to you as soon as I can and again I am sorry for not acknowledging your contact sooner.
Kind regards,
Maurice

Hi Maurice,
I really appreciate your help so very much :)
It seems that William and kate (Fitzgibbon) Quaid moved around abit. I was told once that maybe he was a teacher but perhaps that was his father William (sr)
William (bn 1839)'s parents were William Quain/Quaid (bn 1811) & Nellie Fitzgerald- so I am not sure where they were buried?
===================================================================
William and Kate's youngest son James was born 23 Apr 1882 in Rathmore and he died in Minnesota 16 Oct 1885 - so they family must have immgrated between 1882 and 1885. I have not been able to find their immgration record either :(
=====================================================================
I did find two sisters of William(bn 1839)
1. Ann ( bn abt 1830)-died in Minnesota 1917- married to a John Irwin/ Irving/ Irvine ( 2 sons Michael (bn 1850)and John J( bn 1851-Limerick)-Both sons died in Minnesota
2. Margaret( bn 1845-Croom)- died in Minnesota-1927-married to a Patrick Irwin/Irving/Irvine
Parents of these two sisters- are William and Nellie Fitzgerald
====================================================================
I would love to know if William and Nellie (Fitzgerald) immigrated or not?? If they did not then they would be buried in one of the cemeteries in Bruff.
My Grandmother wrote letters to John Kennedy about their Bruff connections before his death and he wrote back to her and confirmed the Fitzgerald connections but I dont know who Nellie's parents were??
=====================================================================
I did find this baptism for William:
- 1839 18 Jan
- Croom, County Limerick, Ireland
-
Church Baptism Record Name: William Quain Date of Baptism / Birth: 18/01/1839 Address: ? Parish / District: CROOM Gender: Unknown County Co. Limerick Denomination: Roman Catholic Father: William Quain Mother: Ellen Fitzgerald Occupation: Sponsor 1 / I
Church Baptism Quain William 1839 Co. Limerick ================================ Witnesses: Pat Quaid and Anne Coleman
====================================================================
I believe Pat Quaid would be William (sr)'s brother or father? Anne Coleman -probably was a Quaid. Apparently she lived beside William and Kate in Crean or across the street. Someone else told me that an Anne lived across from the Fedamore church .
==================================================================
Anything you or the group can find out for me would be GREAT!
Thanks

Hi Jay,
Regretfully, our Parish Priest has not been able to locate this on the Parish Records. Crean is very much a border townland and so he could have been in any one of a number of neighbouring parishes - Croom, Mainister, Meanus or Fedamore. With your consent, I can put a request for information in the parish notes section of local newsletters and hope that someone may contact us. In addition, I will ask a friend who has put together a family tree for the Fitzgeralds to see if any of the names come up. There are still Fitzgeralds living in the area and they would be about 5th cousins of the late President. I will come back to you as soon as I have any information.
Beannachtai na Nollaig agus athbliain faoi mhaise duit,
(Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year)

So the family would have immigrated between June 1882- Oct 1885
As you can see the only birth record I cant find is my great grandfather John :(
I have looked over some of the Posted Fitzgerald trees however I cant seem to see where my Ellen( Nellie) would fit in..If her daughter Anne was 1st born in abt 1830- then she had to have been born about 1810-1815.
I do not think William ( bn 1811) Fedamore Limerick and Nellie ( Fitzgerald) Quaid/Quain immigrated but am not sure ?? If they did not then they would be buried in Limerick.
Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated :)
Bye for now
Jay

Good News update:
I have finally found my G-grandfather John Joseph Quaid- born/Baptism 5 Dec 1869- Manister Parish..I had found a record in 2007- but the mothers name was not correct.. I recently got help from Cindy Wood and we both found his church record and could plainly see his mother was Kate Fitzgibbon..So if you find a record on the RootIreland- it is always good to double check the actually Church record to confirm the information is correct.
It is so much easier now with the records being online at the National Library website to do this.
Thanks
