Hi,
I'm new here but have done a lot of family research before - I'm actually a genealogist, but don't know the Bruff area so hoping for some local knowledge.
My Bruff ancestry goes back to my 4x great-grandparents Cornelius Tubbs and Margaret Fogarty. They were actually married in Dublin in 1824 & their first child, Bridget, my direct ancestor, was born there, but they then returned to Bruff and had 7 more children. There's another Bridget Tubbs in the records there born 1812 to Michael Tubbs and Bridget McNamara so presumably these are related.
Cornelius appears to have fathered a child with Mary Hartigan in 1823 - he's in the baptismal records as illegimate but was given his father's name: Edmond Tubbs. I speculate that this is what led Cornelius to go briefly to Dublin, but I don't know if Margaret went with him or met him there. I'm aware there are Fogartys in Bruff. Certainly several of their Bruff-born kids have Fogarty godparents but only one has a Tubbs.
The baptismal records for the area have a gap exactly when I'd expect Cornelius to have been born (1793-1804) and I haven't found him in the existing ones.
He died in 1848 (appearing on the prep work for Griffiths but the plot has passed to a Michael Fogarty by the publication).
Tubbs is a really uncommon name so I'm hoping for some local advice.

Thank you very much for your reply. I'll get on to the Facebook pages.
Since I posted this, I now believe the family went to America.
In case other people are interested in reading, I've put the details up on my blog:
I have been able to identify some of the family in the US census and death records.

John Duhig
My Grandfather, also John Duhig , was a farmer in Ballingirlough Bruff and died approx 1953. The farm is still held by Bridget, my first cousin..
I think he was born in Bruff about 1861 and that he had a pub in Bruff early 1900's My father Joseph was born in 1898 also in Bruff and went to CBS and eventually Mungret school in Limerick.. He ended up in the IRA and joined the Irish army after the Troubles.
The family grave is in the Bruff parish grounds and my grandfather is buried there. My father ,some 30 years ago took me to a graveyard just outside Bruff here he showed me a little vault which he said had my relatives in the early 1800's The gate was broken down and there were bones scattered around. My son Niall [also anIrish citizen] helped me to put it back. I have been trying to find this vault again recently and searched 2 graveyards on the road frm Bruff to Croom but no luck. I believe my father mentioned Camass but could not find a graveyard in that location. I know that there are other Duhig families in Bruff but apart from one located in Ballinastona Kilmallock [ from my father's brother Matt } I dont know if any are related. Can you fill in the gaps?

John, if this helps, here is a link to St Molon graveyard, Tullabracky on historicgraves.com:
https://historicgraves.com/graveyard/st-molon/li-smtu
Duhig or Duhigg in St Molon graveyard:
- John Duhigg of Bagistown d 1776
- John Duhig of Bruff late of Dromin d 1865
- John Duhigg, Limerick grocer d 1849, erected by his sister Mrs. Malone of Limerick
The above graveyard borders "Tullybrackey House," where my Moloney and Kirby ancestors lived and still owned by my Kirby cousin. The graveyard is a couple of miles northeast of Bruff town, with a left turn off the R512 road (not on the Lough Our side).
Tithe 1833 lists Patrick Duhigg and Martin Duhigg living in Tullabracky townland
Griffiths Valuation in mid-1800s does not list any Duhiggs or Duhigs in Tullabracky townland, so they may have emigrated.
Hope this helps!

My apologies. Should have read " ... St Molon graveyard, Tullabracky is a couple of miles northWEST of Bruff town ..." (not northeast). This would be if you're headed on the R512 toward Limerick city.

Greetings All,
Like the others, I am trying to trace the Tubbs line from Ireland. I am a descendant of the Irish Tubbs'. I have Michael Tubbs (Jan 1826- Jul 1906) born in Dublin. He married Catherine (Ann) Lindsay (Aug 1830 - Jan 1908). She was born in Ireland. They married 11 Apr 1847 at St Mary, Lambeth, Surrey, England and immigrated to America in 1851; settling in Lima, New York. They are my great grandparents. All of their children were born in Lima.
Catherine's parents I believe to be Robert Lindsay (1797-1882) and Katharine Wright (1771-) both born in Scotland.
Thanks in advance.
