Hi

my name is Dennis Daly and my family is said to have come from your area

Charles Daly and Bridget Daly arrived in Westernport, Melbourne, Australia aboard the Royal George in 1849 they  arrived via plymouth England. Bridgets Maiden name was maloney and it has always been said that they were from Charleville. we have searched records from Australia but cannot find any concrete connection .Charles father was said to be a Daniel Daly which i have found traces of in a town (hamlet) called Garouse . i have also tracked down a marriage certificate from Rockhill and Bruree Stating that a Charles Daly Married a Bridget Mahony in January 1847.

can anyone help

Our family developed an area of Victoria  Australia called Gippsland with a town being named after the family Dalyston and also the  Roman Catholic Parish of Dalyston

it would be great to catch up with some relatives to extend the family tree

There is a townland called Garroose in Bruree civil parish. I checked Google Maps and it is just to the south of Bruree.

On July 8th the National Library of Ireland is placing all RC parish registers online for free searching. Bruree/Rockhill parish is in the Diocese of Limerick and Charleville RC parish is in the Diocese of Cloyne. The Charleville records go back further compared to Bruree.

  • Hi Dennis-It's a long way from Cork to Galway but you may be interested to know that there was a large estate called Dalyston just south of Loughrea in County Galway. It was asssociated with the Bowes-Daly family of Dunsandle,There was at least one member of that Dunsandle family called Denis in relatively recent times.

I do not know of any connection of thisDaly family with Corkbut I will check it out.
