Looking for info on Gillanes- mary born 1827 in colmanswell. Went to New Orleans about 1847 and had siblings Michael, Dennis, John, Patrick, and James. Married John Quilty of probably same parish? Could have been married in Ireland but they are married in 1850 in Cincinnati OH.
Also looking for Michael Naughton born Feb 1846 in Charlesville.emigrated by 1870. Parents were David Naughton and Ellen (?) Geary. Uncertain if parents emigrated. Had brother David.
Grateful for any leads. Also, are there any Gillanes, Quiltys, or Naughtons in this area still?
Much thanks! Jeanie

hello Col. So much thanks for this quick response. This find is pretty intriguing. The Maria here could be our Mary and I wonder if the johanna is her twin. Our Mary Gillane named her first child Johanna. The other siblings listed are possible since they either come close to our list or fit into birth gaps. My question is about Colmanswell not listed. Why would that be? In your opinion, could a family which lists Colmanswell as its origin be found in Bruree? I am having so much trouble when I look at place names in Ireland. I can't tell how mobile people would be, how close places needed to be to really be considered the same places etc.
Did you see anything for Quilty? This ancestor is a true mystery man for us. Our only hope is he is from the same area as his wife.
Much thanks for your work and advice. Jeanie

Jeanie,
The Irish phone book will tell you if there are any of those names still in the area.
Here's a google finding: Colmanswell was part of the parish of Bruree from 1704 to 1859.
In 1859 certain townlands of the parish of Bruree, namely Creggane, Fort East, Fort Middle, Fort West, Gortroe - where the well is, and also the ruins of an ancient church and burial ground, and part of Killacolla. These named townlands were taken in by Colmanswell Parish in 1859. In 1892 the then parish of Colmanswell was joined with Ballyagran to form a new larger parish.
The only J Quilty from Rockfield & Bruree I could find was James:
Name: James Quilty Date of Birth: Date of Baptism: 05-Jul-1829 Address: ? Parish/District: ROCKHILL & BRUREE Gender: Unknown County Co. Limerick Denomination: Roman Catholic Father: James Quilty Mother: Kate Casey Occupation: Sponsor 1 / Informant 1: Brnd. Casey Sponsor 2 / Informant 2: Ellen Culhane
There are 2 siblings for James with above parents:
Patrick 1827 & Edmund 1826 Rockfiel Bruree
