I.NY explores and celebrates the relationship between Ireland and New York, one story at a time.

Global Irish Limerick - I.NY 2019

As an anchor project within the Global Irish Festival Series, the I.NY Project celebrates the richness, diversity and uniqueness of the Ireland New York story, both modern and historical, and highlights the impact each place has had on the other. The I.NY Festival brings to life this relationship, focusing on the personal stories of the Irish in and of New York, and showcasing the music, film, writing and art that has come out of or been inspired by the Ireland New York story.

Programme highlights for 2019

Programme highlights for 2019 include The Annie Moore Talks - a series of conversations and debates about Irish identity and experience in New York, a co-curation with the Irish Arts Centre, the I.NY Festival Club with Qool Marv, Strictly Rhythm and more artists to be announced, and the below headline events. 

Date: 17 October
Born in Brooklyn with Irish grandparents, Dr. Jane O’Meara Sanders, senior advisor to and wife of US Senator Bernie Sanders, returns to I.NY for an evening of political discussion & debate focused on the upcoming 2020 US Election. With Bernie Sanders polling high among potential Democratic nominees, and coming to the end of the most divisive presidential term in decades, I.NY presents a Town Hall style evening for an Irish audience to get up close to the debate. Jane will be joined on the night by guests to be announced.

Date: 18 October
Born in New York, but raised in Limerick before moving back to New York in his early twenties, Malachy McCourt is an actor, author, broadcaster, and second youngest of the McCourt family, made famous through the story of Angela’s Ashes. Malachy returns to Limerick for an evening in conversation, where he will discuss his family’s story and legacy, his life in Ireland and New York, and his experience of the New York Irish.

Date: 19 October
A variety of guest speakers and performers will tell stories of Ireland and New York over a specially themed dinner for 250 friends, family and invited guests. Guest Speakers include the NYPD Commissioner James P. O’Neill and Founder of WearingIrish, Margaret Molloy. Artists reading and performing on the night include Malachy McCourt and HBO’s Qool DJ Marv, with more to be announced.

Date: 20 October
Two of the most respected figures in the Irish music industry come together for a unique evening of conversation and performance in the surrounds of John’s Church. Fiddle-player Martin Hayes and broadcaster John Kelly will discuss the impact New York has had on their personal, professional and artistic lives, and perform the music that reflects that story.
