I started researching my Irwin ancestry a while back and have incorporated some of it into the following book.  It follows Patrick Irwin, who emigrated to New Orleans in the late 1820's, and his cousins from Feenagh.  Patrick Irwin became a very successful businessman and was the first President of The Hibernian Bank of New Orleans in 1870.  When he died in 1878 he was worth more than $3 million.  Thought it might be of interest to anyone else researching their Irwin connections to Feenagh.  www.blurb.com/b/9830947-a-native-of-feenagh-county-limerick

  • This is a Death transcription record of Michael Irwin who was born in Feenagh Limerick. He died on the 5th.June 1882 in Toowoomba Queensland Australia. His father is listed as William Irwin. He married Honoria Horrigan who was born in Kanturk Ireland abt 1830. They married in England aby 1855. I would like to hear from anyone from his family as I have a story to share about him.

  • In researching the Lyons, McKasy and McAuliffe families in the Milford area of co Cork just south of limerick and east of Drumcollier, Limerick, an old handwritten letter dated 1880 (just after the death of Patrick Irwin New Orleans) was passed to us in MD from a McKasy family in Burnsville, MN. The letter was obviously written in an attempt to claim some heritance.  These families, as early catholic tenant farmers at Gibbings Grove, Milford immigrated to LeSueur MN between abt 1855-1860.  SEE https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Irwin-6490&errcode=saved

Patrick Lyons of Milford married Mary Irwin, daughter of Edward Irwin and Mary Mulane of the Parish of Feenagh, County of Limerick, Ireland. Edward is reported the Uncle of Patrick of New Orleans.  Patrick Lyons had followed Patrick Irwin to New Orleans and was never heard from.

  • Hi Bertelsen,

Interested in hearing further details  about Michael Irwin born 1835. I have details on three William Irwin's living in Feenaghin that period  but none of them match his details. All of them had sons named Michael.

  • Hi all,

I am a descendent of the Irwins and I still live in Feenagh in Co. Limerick, presumably in the same house that Patrick Irwin of New Orleans originated from. I would love to know any more information that you have on the Irwins, and  I could be of any assistance to you.

  • Hi,

Patrick was born and raised in Charleville so did not originate from your house in Feenagh.

Contact me directly if you want more info on the Irwin's.
