The subscription site Roots Ireland has a baptismal record July 8 1844 for a Michael Woods with father Michael Woods and mother Catherine Daly. Sponsors were Felix Daly and Mary Burns. The RC parish was Upper Creggan.

No other Michael Woods baptismal records in Armagh in that time period,

  • Thankyou for finding this for me,this is in the right area for me so will get me further with my research,I had my DNA done but most of it was my father's side Walsh so did not help me much, pity they don't have both parents names on the marriage certificate,it would help a lot.

I just checked and there were eight baptismal records for children of Michael Woods and Catherine Daly including an Ann and a Bridget (Delia).

On Roots select Co. Armagh records. On the left hand side, select Baptisms and put Woods in the surname field  On the right side of the search page show father Michael  mother Daly and Cat (for Catherine)

Let me know if you still have problems.

  • I've done it!!! Thankyou so much,it took a while I got a few then no more I ended up just with Woods in the box and the years you gave me then looked down the list for the name I wanted I did the wedding the same way, lots of different spellings and I knew Bridget and Delia where for the same name but never thought of putting Bridget down, now I just have to wait for the library to open to print everything off,15 people for the woods side and 8 on the Walsh even if I don't get any further I am very pleased with all I've got,Thankyou very much.

  • There is only the church record for Michael Woods and Catherine Daly's Marriage  on rootsireland so can't get their parents details is there anywhere else to look for the civil records,as the marriage was at Upper  Creggan I looked for births that might fit I found two in Armagh for michael.

Michael Woods 31 January 1814 Upper Creggan father Arthur Woods mother Mary Myers, also looked for siblings but found no more births for Arthur Woods and Mary Myers, but two births Rose 21 November 1813 and Patrick 23 July 1815 both born upper Creggan to Arthur Woods and Rose Myers, wonder if the Mary was a mistake as Rosemary might have been said.there is a Arthur woods in the Tithe Applotments in 1828 at Rasson Creggan.

The other Michael was born in Armagh 10 October 1813 Parents Patrick Woods and Anne Fitzpatrick

Found Cathe Daly 5 March 1815 Upper Creggan Parents Lawerence Daly and Bridget Daly, sponsors Peter McChoart and Margaret mcChoart(poss mother's maiden name.

The Marriage was 1834 so though ages about right but don't want to guess,if all this wrong could someone put me on the right track as I signed up for a year to rootsireland so might as well get as much information as I can.

  • Trish:

Civil registration of births started in 1864 and as did RC marriages. FYI although not relevant to your family, non-RC marriages were civilly registered starting 1845.
