Hi all! I'm looking for more information on my grandfather's family. He was William Cregan, born in 1914 in Grouselodge. His parents were John Cregan and Norah Moloney. While I have traced my family back to the 1840s, I am having trouble with anything more recent than 1920. I know that my grandfather came to Canada around 1952, and that he was not accompanied by his family. I also know that there was a family farm, which was deeded to the tenants when John passed away in the 1970s. I have found some indication that the family may have moved to Ballymakeery in the 40s, but I can't be sure. I would love to know where my grandfather grew up, where the farm was, and whether or not my father has any living cousins! It would be wonderful to be able to tell my father more about his father and show him these places.
Thank you so much!
Ellie

Ellie:
We have very little info online post-1920. Marriage records thru 1945 and deaths thru 1970.
It looks like your great-grandparents took overa farm right before the 1911 census. They had eight children from 1912-1920 although one child Johanna (the first) died at four days and the next female child was given the same name. I looked at the marriage records and only found a marriage for Johanna to James Condon in 1939. Perhaps they went to Ballymakeery? I did not see any death records for any of the siblings. Do you know if any of the other siblings married in Ireland?

Regarding the house, here is a link to the 1911 census form B1 for Grouselodge. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai002792954/
The Cregan house was the second largest of the six in the townland with four windows in front.

Hi Ellie-
my name is Beth Callahan and I am related to the Cregan's of Grouselodge, Glin region of Ireland. I think your grandfather's grandfather was a brother (or cousin) of my great grandmother, Elizabeth Cregan. Genealogy research is so hard because everyone used the same names!!
Here is what I think I have discovered:
Thomas Cregan married Ellen Cuddihy and they had 9 children: one of them being John Cregan born around 1821 (your great-great grandfather) and another being Elizabeth Cregan (my great grandmother) born around 1851 ( I have information on the other siblings but I don't want to make this too complicated)
I believe 1821 John Cregan married Johanna Fallihee and they had 8 children one of them being your great grandfather John Cregan born around 1880 ( I also have info on the other children)
I think 1880 John Cregan married Nora Moloney and they had your grandfather, William Cregan born around 1914 who then married your grandmother, Mildred Robinson who recently passed in 2020. I found her obituary but do not want to list any further names for privacy sake.
I would really love to connect with you- I believe I am your dad's generation. It would be so much fun to compare information and see what we have in common. I also have a cousin who is very good at genealogy and he can look into this further for us
Looking forward to hearing back from you

Such a shame that nobody made a connection.
