I have some information that states that one of my relatives came from Kildimo. John McMahon was born about 1773 there and left after his wife Mary (Maloney) passed in 1833. He went to Canada where a son Dennis b-1815 had a farm in Chesterville, ONT

I only know for sure that the one son left. The others Thomas, Patrick, Daniel, Michael, and Elizabeth may have stayed. I was informed that most records don't go prior to 1830. So I'm hoping something may surface somehow.

Thanks for any light you might be able to shed on this, Brian

  • Hello again Brian!

Below is a link to the 1825 Tithe Applotment listing for a John McMahon in Ballyvareen townland in Kildimo parish. I don't know if this is your ancestor but it would be a lead.

  • Thank you Roger, I'll keep digging...

I also have a Great grand mother from Skibereen to dig into. Can you recommend a good starting spot?

Hope this new year brings good things to you and your family.  Brian

  • Brian:

A good starting point would be www.irishgenealogy.ie for church records through 1880. Here is a link to the parish regiister for Skibbereen. http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0096
