Could you describe what a Townland is? Perhaps a map of the area of Knockainey showing details of streets, points of interest, and Townlands would be possible?
Thank-you. Kbender

A townland is a particular area within a parish.
A townland or bally (Irish: Baile Fearainn) is a small geographical division of land used in Ireland. The townland system is of Gaelic origin, pre-dating the Normans,[1][2][3][4] with most townlands believed to pre-date the Norman invasion and many retaining their Gaelic names.[2] Some townland names and boundaries however derive from Norman manors, plantation divisions, or later creations of the Ordnance Survey.[5][6] There are currently 61,402 named townlands in Ireland, covering the whole island.[7]
Follow the link below for greater detail. We will put up a separate post with knockainey map and townland names.
