I am looking for information on Michael Hedderman and his wife Catherine Walsh who immigrated to America during the potato famine in 1850.  I don't know exactly where in Ireland they came from but all of my information points towards Co. Limerick.

He was 27 yrs old when he came to America in 1850.  He came alone then sent for his wife Catherine Walsh.

  • Hi Maryellen

You could try www.rootsireland.ie which has baptism/marriage records for Limerick. As Michaels marriage was before civil registration in 1864 there will only be a church record.

Also www.familysearch.org has records for Ireland.

  • Hello MaryEllen,

I went to www.rootsireland.ie and searched for a baptism for Michael Heddermann.

I found two possible records in Co. Limerick.  One in 1821 and the other 1826.

I don't know which one is your ancestor and without any parents names it will be difficult to determine which one to follow.

Have you applied for Michael's death certificate where he lived to see if it contains more information?  Or have you looked through any newspapers to see if his death is mentioned?  These can often be a source of information.

    Kind regards,

    Anne Dennehy

  • Hi Mary Ellen

As a child, my great-grandfather John O'Keefe from Anglesboro, Limerick moved to London (1842?) and then to New York City or NJ around 1865.  There he met and married Bridget Hedderman, also from Anglesboro there.

Maybe were connected. I'd be happy to share more information if you're still interested.
