Hi,

I am looking for George Sparling (c. 1768-1818), and John Sparling (c. 1726-1786), both of Limerick.

Thank you for any assistance you may provide.

  • Dear Cyndi:

Welcome to the Ireland Reaching Out programme.

You might note that George Sparling was baptised on 28 August 1768 in Rathkeale, County Limerick.  He was the son of John Sparling and Catherine (maiden name not listed) and they were Church of Ireland.  The townland for one of his sibling's baptism was noted as Killehene.

It appears that George was one of at least 9 children born to John and Catherine.  You can find all of their baptism records on the Roots Ireland website at the link below:

You might note that the Roots Ireland website is a subscription site, but that you can take out a subscription by a daily, monthly or yearly basis.

In addition, you might check the Historic Graves website for any headstones associated with this family.  Their website is below:

If you need any further assistance, please let us know.

    Kind regards,

    Jane.

    Cyndi,

I have been doing some research of German Palatine families who settled in Rathkeale.  The Sparling name was among those listed.  So it is likely that somewhere in this line was  the original Protestant emigrant from Germany.  There is quite a bit of information online if you were not already in possession of this info.  I believe there is also a German Palatine Heritage Center near Rathkeale that might be able to provide information.   Hope that helps.

  • Hi Cyndi

John Sparling born 1726 -1786 in Rathkeale Limerick was the son of George Peter Sparling and Margaret Hanna Stuffle. His wifes name was Elizabeth Sparling and he had 10 children (No TV in those days).

    Henry,Samuel,John,Peter,Jacob,George,William,Catherine,James,Frances.

The Sparlings trace thier ancestry way back to 1170 to Germany around the saxony region.

The furthest back i have got to was Johann von Sperling.

To let you know John Sparling would have been my great great grandmothers (Cecelia Sparling nee Shaw) b. 1851 d.1940 husbands great great grandfather .Their son Thomas Sparling 1876- 1932 was the father of my great grandmother kathlenn sparling. We are related along the way somewhere.
