James and Brigid O'Connell emigrated to Australia from Castleconnell in 1852 with children including our g-grandfather Thomas, then aded 15. Oldest son, Patrick, had migrated 2 years earlier as had 2 of Brigid's sistrs, Nora and -?. Brigid's family name is listed differently on various documents so spelling is uncertain. Another child may have stayed in Ireland. We have not been able to locate any church records of marriage or baptismal details and hope that local knowledge will help us. My sister and I visited Castleconnell in 2012, found O'Connell graves at Doonass, their home place, and the Summerhill estate of Colonel Vincent where we believe the family worked. Any details would be appreciated. The concept of Reaching Out is wonderful! Thank you,

  • Looking for extended or further information on the Franks family. My Great grandfather was William Hamilton Franks born 23/09/1865. He had two sisters Katherine Henrietta Franks born 11/03/1868 and Lucy Franks born 21/09/1873.

Their parents were William Hume Franks and Lucy Franks (nee White).

William Hamilton Franks married below "acceptanle family standards" of the time - married Sarah Letitia Jones in 1885 and because of this his father banned him to New Zealand (he never returned).

Am finding it hard to track both of his sisters and ny G-Gmothers descendants. On her marriage to William Hume Franks it lists her father as Richard White from Bantry. In the Peerage of Ireland a Richard White (Bantry) is listed as married without issue. Am figuring my G-G grandfather may have beena distant relative.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

  • Hi Gai, I don't have any additional information to provide about your family, but these simple connections are often the most helpful in furthering ones family research.  My family lived at Summerhill for a very long time, and Colonel Vincent was my great great grandfather.  Additional help in researching your family may also be helped by the name of Colonel Vincent's father, Berkeley Vincent, also of Summerhill, of whom I have inherited my name.  It may or may not be of additional help, but many of the Vincent family records are now held at the library of Muckross House, Killarney.  I would assume, if any records survive of staff members, etc. they may be there.  Happy hunting!
