I grew up knowing my grandmother, but not much about her parents. I have my great-grandmother's birth certificate. Which has helped a great deal in my family history. I'm trying to find more about Thomas Blake, my great grandfather. Thomas Blake married Margaret Blake (they both had the same last name) Margaret lived on Glue Yard Lane.
- I believe Thomas, born 1882, lived on Campbell's Lane Limerick No 6.
- His mother's name was also Margaret
- His siblings were Patrick (1880), Michael (1887), Lizzie (1885), Mary Ann (1891), Maggie (1893)
- He departed Queentown, Ireland. Arrived in New York Sept 27th1903 on the Arabic
- I believe he married Margaret Blake, Feb 4 1904 in Manhattan, NY, whee they lived on 2nd Ave
- I know Margaret went back to Ireland, again to Glue Yard Lane, gave birth to my grandmother, and Moved back to the states in 3 years time.
- Margret's parents names are on the birth certificate Catherine Keeffe and Patrick Blake
- I have no record of Thomas Blake's father (in 1901 Margaret was listed as Head of family, yet married)
I can't find any earlier record of Thomas and/or his family before the 1901 census. It's like they just appeared. I was not able to find birth records, or Catherine and Patrick's marriage. I wondered if they relocated to Limerick. I also wondered if he still has family in Ireland or the states.
My grandmother went back to Ireland often. (then Mary Blake Kelly) I didn't know her freinds there, but I believe one family was Quade (Quaid). They may have had a bed and breakfast and owned a car service out of Limerick. Thee was also another gentleman, by the name of J. Dillon.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I located an 1882 civil birth record for a Thomas Blake with parents Patt Blake and Margaret Lyons. If this is the correct record then Patt Blake and Margaret Lyons were married in 1876 and both of their fathers were name John.

Thank you so very much Roger!! I've done so much "homework" on this, but had no success with my great-grandfather's side. I'll be in Limerick in a couple of weeks, I'm going to roam around my nana's old stopping grounds.
Cheers!

Hi There
My name is Annette, I'm a voluteer with Ireland Reaching out, if you would like to meet up when you are in Limerick I can show you around the area you are interested in. There has been massive redevelopment of the area in question - Glue Yard Lane, but a lot of history still remains there. Regards Annette

That sounds lovely Annette. I believe Thomas Blake is St John's parish (Campbell's Lane).
