Looking for Ancestors of John MULLANE and his wife Bridget BARRY

The only relevant marriage record I could find was one for John Mullane and Bridget Barry in the parish of Banteer, Cork on 26 September 1832. His parents are not listed unfortunately. Witnesses to the marriage were Elizabeth Barry and Mary Creedon. If you look on Rootsireland.ie you will see that there are 7 children listed as baptisted of this couple between counties Limerick and Cork including a John in 1837. The last though is in 1843. How sure are you of their departure date from Ireland? 

Do you know if there were any siblings for John or do you think this is a different family?

              Thank you for your response. I do apologise for not getting back to you earlier, but sadly when computers decide to "playup", anything can happen.

              I can tell you I have no siblings for John,  and also I am pretty sure about the immigration date of 1841, via the "Forth" arriving at Melbourne, Victoria, Australia in September 1841.

             I am sorry I cannot be more specific, but the family were not conspicuous in the local community, and therefore records were not as common as other families. (I have access to Newspapers of the time) 

            I would not be surprised if John did have siblings however with the family in Ireland, I am unsure of what direction to go.

It might also be a good idea to keep an eye on the Early Birth and Marriage Index as it is updated regularly. If your ancestor isn't included now they may appear at a later date. One way to try to learn more would be to focus on children of John and Bridget and children's children in the hope that working back through the same line additional information might become available. I include a You Tube link to a presentation. It refers to US records but the theory is the same and you may find it interesting/useful.

Your grandfather must have been much younger as John and Bridget were my Great,great grandparents. I believe there were children brought with them and left in Ireland to be sponsored later.

I have the parents of John being John Mullane and Sarah Murphy no dates or anything else.

Young John remarried after bridget was killed in a Horse and cart accident at 79 and had three more offspring with Annie Higgins.

John Mullane and Bridget (Biddy) Barry were my great, great grandparents also.  Phil - does that make us second cousins?

My great-grandfather Patrick Mullane was born in Limerick on 24/12/1840 (second bord of John and Biddy), but was left behind in Ireland when John and Biddy immigrated to Victoria, Australia in 1841, along with their first born son John.  They were on the ship 'Forth', as assisted passengers.  My great grandfather Patrick came to Australia as a 10 year old on the ship "Harry Lorrequer" in 1851.  Interestingly there were 3 Patrick Mullanes on this voyage - two 10 year olds and a 9 year old!

Patrick married Honora Sullivan on 26 Feb 1865 - they had 11 children - and he died in 1903.  Their fifth child Patrick, was my grandfather, who was born in 1877 and died in 1950.  He married Violet Lillian (Lil) Burgoyne in 1925 and they had five children, the fifth being my father Geoffrey Thomas Mullane, born 2 May 1947.

Rob - on your My Heritage family tree, you have 5 children listed as Patrick and Lil's, but only the oldest at Jack Neville Mullane. The others are Shirley Smith, (92 this year), Mary Lillian Bristow (Lil, but known as Bub in the family), Kaye Carlson ( 74 this year) and my dad Geoff Mullane (72 this year). All of my aunts and my dad are still alive, Jack is the only one deceased.

I am the oldest child of Geoff Mullane and Christine Williamson, first born of identical twins.  We were born on 19 April 1967 - my twin is Angela Catherine Anspach (nee Mullane).  My full name is Shendelle Christina Mullane. I currently live in Manjimup Western Australia, and my siblings are in Bunbury (my home town and where Dad and his 3 sisters), Wannamal, and Perth.  My Mullane cousins are mostly in Perth or Bunbury as well.

I am visiting Ireland for the first time from April 8 to 15 and plan to visit Limerick and any other areas that my ancestors came from.  I haven't had any luck finding Ard (Bridget's birthplace) or more specific details of John's birthplace beyond Newcastle.  Any assistance would be most appreciated.

The other Mullanes I know of were Ken Mullane and his wife Gwen from Collie, now deceased, who would have been my grandfather's nephew or my dad's cousin.  My aunty Kaye has also mentioned Bernie Mullane in Bayswater, Perth, as someone who may be able to assist with family heritage. But I can't find him on Rob's My Heritage family tree.  Phil - are you related to Bernie?

Bernie Mullane is my father, still with us at 91 this year.

I have details, or dad has of the family tree and photos etc listing families from John and bridget down to my generation (gg grandchildren) and some beyond.

Have seen some ancestry notices, information etc that do not correlate with what dad has gleaned.

Not sure of best or safest way to make contact but am certainly willing to pass on what info we have.
