Hi there
Greetings from Canberra Australia.
I have a brick wall with my Irish ancestors and would appreciate any assistance/advice.
My 2xgg John Frawley b. abt 1821 (in Finoo or Shanagolden) emigrated to Australia in 1854 and became a farmer in Strathfieldsaye, Victoria, near the Bendigo goldfields.. His parents were James Frawley and Hanorah Hayes.
John had a brother James and sisters Hanorah and Mary all of whom also emigrated to Australia..
John Frawley married Elizabeth Windle b. 1834 in Shanagolden. Her parents were Henry Windle b. about 1816 and Ellen Sullivan b. about 1816. Elizabeth was a Montegle Emigrant who emigrated aout 1856. She married John Frawley in Bendigo in 1858. Elizabeth had at least one brother Michael Windle who emigrated to Australia.
I am particularly interested in trying to trace John and Elizabeth's parents/grandparents. Any assistance in helping me trace these ancestors or their descendants would be very very welcome. I have searched Ancestry.com, FindMyPast, Roots Ireland and Family Search.
I am visiting Limerick in the week commencing 16 September and would love to meet any relatives if there are still any in the aea.
Regards
Therese Lynch

Hello Theresa,
My g-g-grandfather was Mortimer Lynch 1801-73 was from Shanagolden. He married his wife Mary O'Brien 1804-1897 at St Senan RC Church in Shanagolden 10 Oct 1825. They had a total of 12 children the first three being born in Ireland, the remainder in Canada. Mortimer was also known as Murtagh in some records. It's unconfirmed but we believe his father was Thomas Lynch. I have seen this Frawley name come up in some records. I just can;t remember where at the moment. My Lynch's had a fair bit of intermarriage with the Hishons on both sides of the ocean.

My sister-in-laws husband descends from John Frawley's sister Honorah who married John Fitzgibbon.

Hi Therese,
Are you aware of the two Monteagle Emigrant books - Poverty To Promise and West Limerick Families Abroad? Both books have extensive info about the Frawley families that lived near the estate at Mount Trenchard. I do not want to duplicate the info included in these books if you've already seen them. If you have not seen these books, you should obtain copies of them. There are at least a dozen references to Frawley families in each book. I am certain that they cover the Frawley families you are interested in.
On page 86 of West Limerick Families Abroad it states:
"After the death of her husband, widow Mary Frawley nee Walsh, in 1851 living in Scara, Co Lim, was helped to emigrate to Australia by Lord Monteagle, and her brother James who had preceeded her to Melbourne. On 5 Jul 1852, she arrived with her six children in Hobson's Bay, Port Philip on the Lady McDonald. Her brother John and his family accompanied her." The family first lived in temporary housing in Canvas Town, then moved to Dandenong where Mary bought land in 1856.
Mary Walsh Frawley was the widow of Jerimiah Frawley of Dooncaha.
There is also considerable info in both books regarding the Windle and Hayes families.
You stated that you've already searched Ancestry.com and FamilySearch, so I will not duplicate that info.
If you need further info about the books mentioned, don't hesitate to email.
Best wishes,

Leo: My grandmother was the grandchild to Mortimer Lynch and Mary Obrien. I have record of only one child, John Lynch, as that is as far back as I could trace on the Lynch side. Do you happen to have the remainder of the info on their other children? I have Mort born in 1836, Mary in 1836 and John in 1851. Any further info you have would be most appreciated. I have a lot of the Canadian history from John Lynch down (41 pages of it handwritten by my mother).

Hi Therese,
I was able to find quite a few Windle families in the 1911 Irish Census. I did find a Henry Windle in Carrigkerry (Glensharrold, Limerick). Henry was born in 1887. I would check this area when you visit Ireland in the fall. If the family followed traditional Irish naming patterns, then this Henry could have been named after your Henry b 1816.
There is also a Maureen Windle that lives in the Carrigkerry area. I found her in the phone book.
You might also consider posting a query to the Carrigkerry Face Book page.
I also found a bit of further info at this website. http://dalyskennelly2000.jimdo.com/historybits-b-2011/ It appears to be "history bits" that someone put online. If you use your browser's search function (CTRL and "f" buttons at the same time), you will find several Windle births and marriages.
Good Luck! Please share if you have any success.
Best wishes,
