I've already had such great help from this site - so thanks! I now know where my ancestors (Monteagle emigrants) lived (Townland Briskagh/Shanagolden) and have the Griffiths Valuation Map showing the actual location. I am coming to Shanagolden next month (passing through while on holidays) so will try to check that out (looks to be on a rural property now). I'd also like to check out the church where my Great Great Grandparents got married on the 24th February 1838 (Irish Catholic Registers). Am I correct in assuming this would have taken place at the Catholic Church in Shanagolden (the one built in 1814?). Is this open for visits? Would they have burial records there? Thanks! Leigh

If you have not done so already, could you complete the attached form regarding your visit to Ireland. Thanks!   https://www.irelandxo.com/meet-and-greet

  • Leigh,

I would suggest that you try to contact the parish office. I have copied and pasted the details for you. A lot of the rural churches can be closed during the day and only open for mass etc.
