I am looking for birth location, etc. for my 2nd great grandmother Mary McGann. She fiirst shows up with her father John McGann in the 1851 Scotland Census as a 17 year old who was born in County Longford, Ireland. No mention of mother. On her marriage record to James McEwan in 1855, mother is listed as Anne Rollins and Mary's birthppace is listed as Derrygourie (sp?) , County Longford. As cannot find Derrygourie, any help in finding the right townland or parish in Longford would be appreciated.
Thanks, Mike

Mike:
The subscription site Roots Ireland has an April 2 1833 baptismal record for a Mary McGann with father John and mother Ann Rollin. The RC parish was Newtowncashel which is located in the southwest corner of Co. Longford. I did not see any baptismal records for siblings. I also did not find a marriage record.
The civil parish would be Cashel. There is no Derrygourie townland in Cashel parish. There are a number of townlands in the parish which start with Derr-

I’d say it could be Derrygowna which is not too far from Newtowncashel. It has a lot of bog within its boundary.

Hello, I have had some success with the recommendation of Townland Derrygowna. From the 1833 birth record of Mary McGann, Michael McGann was a witness and a John McGann was a witness for the 1830 birth of Michael's son John. In the birth of the second child of Michael and Brigid, the townland listed was Derryanna. When I looked at the written records in RootsIreland, it was Derrygowna and not Derryanna. Given that they are both having children at the same time and having each other as witnesses, I am surmising that they are brothers.
There is a record of Michael Magann in Griffiths Valuation for Derrygowna. A Brigid Casey is noted a Michael McGann's second sponsor for his son John's birth in 1830 in the parish records. The same name is listed as his next door neighbour in Griffith's Valuation for Derrygowna. Interesting aside is that their landlord was Viscount Lorton who seemed to own most of Roscommon.
Lukey and Roger, any other reasons why you pointed towards Derrygowna townland besides proximity. And what does it mean when you say it has a lot of bog in it. Any other suggestions on further steps would be very welcome, Thanks, Mike

Mike:
I was only going by the closest spelling to Derrygourie.
