Irwin  - Parish of Clogher

My direct grandfather Archibald born 1814 married 1834 Clogher Cathedral Mary Clingen/Clingham born 1816, has issue Joseph 1835 in Ireland and his brother Thomas born 1837 Canada.

Archibald was found with brother Joseph in 1851 Canada Census born 1810 married about 1833 to an unknown, had issue of Thomas 1834 and William 1837 in Canada, re-married 1839 Cornwall, marriage bond, Mary Waddel(l), had issue 3 girls.

Also present was brother James born 1813, bachelor.

Looking for parent of this family.  No parents were indicated on marriage certificate and same witnesses as on other marriage certificates from the Cathedral.  Also who Joseph may have married in Ireland.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the long delay in getting back to you - I am still catching up on the Christmas posts!

Unfortunately, given the early dates of your search this may be as far as you can go in terms of the search for Archibald?s parents. As you probably know parish records for Clogher start in 1856 for baptism and 1825 for marriages. Any baptism or marriage in the parish before this will not have a parish record available. You may find that you will have to undergo an information gathering exercise and keep an eye out for new record releases. I find this blog very useful:

You may also find that you will be able to learn a little more from the Canadian side. Perhaps, for example the newspaper archives would be useful? Have you tried rootsireland for a marriage cert for Joseph? I would also check ancestry.com public member trees for instances of the family name

Let us know if you learn anything new that we could assist you with

    Best wishes
