Thank you to Col and Pat who have already responded to this message posted in Collon Parish, but I am no further forward and thought I would post in Ardee too in the hope it would mean something to someone. I have also made the birthdate a bit later (rather than earlier Col) in line with ages in censuses in England and Channel Is when he was there in the Royal Artillery.....................

Looking for parentage and ancestors for Thomas James (or James Thomas) Hatch, born abt 1847 in Collon, Co.Louth. In 1875 he is in the Royal Artillery, based at Pembroke Dock, Pembrokeshire, South Wales. In May 1876 he married Phillis (Philly) Hodge in this Haverfordwest registration district there. They had 9 children between abt 1875 and 1896. In 1881 he is a Sergeant in the RA in London. In 1885 he is a Master Gunner in the RA in Fort George Barrracks in Invernessshire, Scotland. In 1891 he is a Master Gunner in the RA in St.Peter Port, Guernsey, Channel Islands. He is a Retired Gunner in 1901 when his daughter Eleanor Beatrice is marrying my great grandfather in Cornwall. Thomas died in St.Teath, Cornwall on 4 Apr 1914. His daughter Eleanor died in 1913, and my great grandfather then married her youngest sister Harriet in 1915 to look after his children and have a further son.

  • Hi Trevor,

I am researching the Hatch families from Collon, Co Louth.  I have not come across your Thomas James Hatch yet but more than likely he is connected to my Hatches. i.e.. Mathew Hatch 1798 - 1880 & Mary Cheevers 1791 -1868 are my GGGGrandparents. I have most of their family tree and also that of Mathews Brother Luke Hatch 1802 - 1867 & Mary Gargan 1800 - 1867.  These are the only Hatch family that I have found from Collon, There is Hatch family in the area today, but lots of distant relatives like myself who live quiet local. If you wish to get in touch ourtreefamily@gmail.com  Nicola

  • Thank you for that Nicola. My family tree is on Ancestry where my Ancestry name is 'trendier1' and the tree is called 'Pocknell Family Tree'. There are photos of Eleanor and Harriet on there. I will investigate to see if I can find a connection.

    Many thanks,

    Trevor
