My gg-grandfather William Bailie (1843-1896) was born in County Louth and according to his marriage certificate his father was a John Bailie, farmer. William Bailie himself was a policeman.
On PRONI wills there is a John Bailie Treagh, County Louth died 1876 and the executor is a Hugh Bailie of Scarva, County Down "Sub constable of Police".
Given that I have an ancestor William Bailie, a policeman born 1843 in Louth - and there is a Hugh Bailie policeman (born circa 1846 in County Louth) mentioned in the 1876 will of John Bailie of Treagh, County Louth - I suspect this John is my ancestor. I need further information to prove that though.
Does anyone have any information on the Bailie familie who lived at Treagh?

I search the phone book for Dundalk and got 12 Bailey names, note the spelling which is more common now but your one is in Dublin.http://www.eircomphonebook.ie/ The default search is to Business so select residential.
The dates you are searching are coming near the Civil registration of 1864 and 1845 for Protestant Marriages and it may be possible to trace downwards, try these two subscription sites

You can get copies of Hugh & William's RIC service records from the PSNI museum in Belfast. RIC policy was not to post staff to counties where they had been brought up (or, when they married, where their families came from). Consequently they will have served anywhere but Louth.
