I have put this on Dromin page but realised I should have posted it here.
Hello there, excited to find this site. I have spent many years researching my family and spent some time in Ireland in 2010 trying to find out more.
The main thing I would like to know is researching my fathers side my 3rd grandfather was Patt Taaffe who married Catherine Herens on 17th January 1810 in Dunleer, but I cannot find anything on either of them regarding births, deaths, parents, absolutely nothing except their marriage. From my research they had 3 sons George in 1811, James 1812 and Patt 1819.
James is my 2nd grandfather and he married Margaret Barron on 12 April 1842 at Dunleer.
I would be happy to find out anything about the 2 of them. One of their sons Francis is my greatgrandfather and he is the one who came out to Australia.
Thankyou for the opportunity to hopefully find some more clues to my past.

Hi
Thank you for your message.
I have forwarded your request to a volunteer in Co Louth who may be able to offer some advice or assistance.
Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Kind regards,

Hi
You might be able to find some information from the Dunleer & District Historical Society website which is at http://www.midlouthhistory.com/. In particular there is a very comprehensive document which is a compilation of many other Dunleer related records at
http://www.midlouthhistory.com/documents/Dunleer_An_historical_Archive…
No doubt you already know that the Taaffe/Taafe name is very widespread in Louth. The above document has many references to the families and also for a smaller number of Barrons in the area. One reference which might be helpful is on page 364 which lists Grge&James Taaffe as landholders in Dromin in 1834. This seems to fit with your George and James as brothers.
This information is taken from the Tithe Applotment records which are online at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/. If you search there for the Dromin records you will find this particular entry is transcribed as George and James Jaafe so it won't appear if searching for Taafe/Taaffe.
"Herens" doesn't seem to appear anywhere in the area. I suspect there is a good chance this is a misspelling (or maybe transcription error). The "Kierans" family name does appear in the area. Maybe Catherine is actually a Kierans or some variant of Kierans??

Jean, I cannot thank you enough for the valuable information you have sent me. I have spent a long time searching through it and hope it leads me further. I will look up Kierans for Catherine and see what I come up with and let you know.
I have joined the Historical Society as well so hope that also gives me more information as I find the family history enthralling.
Again I cannot thank you enough.
