I am attempting to find relatives of my ancestor that came to the US from County Louth.  James Edward Watters was born in Dundalk, County Louth in the fall of 1830.  His parents were William Watters and Maria Dunn.  Maria died 6 months after the birth of James.  William married Kate Chamberlain and they had three children Anna, Kate and William.  The girls reportedly died young.  I do not know what happened to the some William.  The father William died in 1850 while working as a slater when he fell from a roof.  James who went by his middle name of Edward, emigrated to the United States about 1848

  • Hi William, I am looking over unanswered queries and had a go at yours, I cannot find any of the people you mention, not unusual as we rely on church records and at that remove not all parishes have records at that remove, however I would expect to find the Watters / Chamberlain marriage or the baptisms with a Chamberlain mother and I did not, notice that the Chamberlain name while more common that I thought it would be was not really north of Dublin. This site for Louth does show the name in the 1600s and 1700s. https://jbhall.clahs.ie/

The site here does not contact or research living relatives but there is a Louth Genealogy private page on Facebook and you might find someone there if you check, I do know there is a business in that area of mid Louth.

    Good Luck
