My ggrandfather is listed in Griffiths 1854 on page 68 along with a Margaret Keegan. He was married to Mary Dolan (date unknown) & they had 4 children before she died. The 1st three were boys named Patrick, Thomas & Laurence & they emigrated to USA around 1874. All lived in Kinderhook, NY in 1875.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The RC parish for Mosstown civil parish is Dunleer and records for that parish go back to the late 1700s. However, I was unable to find a marriage record and I'm wondering if they were married in a nearby parish which does not have records in the 1840s. For example, Kilsaran parish has a gap in marriage records from 1836-1853. I did find transcriptions of the baptismal records for the three sons. Looks like the family lived in Knockaleva townland also in Mosstown parish and sometime betwwen 1849 and 1853, they moved to Mullacapple.

  • Thank you so much Roger, for all this information. I appreciate it very much!  Further, I was able to find the death date of James Keegan on the LDS website under Wills & Administrations 5 August 1910 as Feb. 8, 1870. It states that " Administration of the estate of James Keegan, late of Mullacaple Collon County Louth farmer who died Feb. 8, 1870 granted at Dublin to Catherine Keegan the widow,"  I know that he married Catherine Mohan after Mary Dolan died & they had 4 more children. I wonder why it took so long to settle the estate.....is there any way to see the will information on a website?  Also I'd like to know where he is buried.  So many questions!!!  And thank you, again!
