I'm looking for information on my great grandfather's McKenna family who lived on Ropewalk in Drogheda at least up to 1875.
The family worshipped at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Drogehda....Peter McKenna married Ann/Anne Conahy/Conoughy/Conachy/ Cunningham about 1857 but not at St. Peter's...Ann's home parish must have been somewhere else...they had Mary, Ann, James, John( my great grandfather), Bridget, Joseph, Jane, Jane and Alice....I know that Mary, Alice and John emigrated to Massachusetts and Ann may have emigrated to Mass. as well....one of the daughters named Jane may have died young and I suspect that Bridget did as well....I'd like to know what became of the parents and of James and the other Jane....Alice the youngest was born in 1875 and that's the last I know of the family. No record of anyone in the family by 1901 in Drogheda.
I'd like to know where Peter and Ann married and whether they emigrated or died in Eire..I'd also like to know what became of James, and Jane who was bapptized in 1872. Looking for any possible McKenna family members in Eire.

Hi KerryOkie
firstly have you been on previously if not someoone else has had a similiar query.
I searched the Irish records on a subscription site plus or minus 5 years and got not marriage for said Peter to an Ann, nearest is a Mary McCloskey in Derry in 1860. Also post 1864 there is civil registration and while not entirely accurate in the early years it does give two Alice McKenna's born in Drogheda one in 1870 and the other in 1875. I did not check the other names as yet in case you are happy with them, the mother name is not given but may be on the short certificate which is €4 for a photo copy, let me know if you want to follow this up and I will give you the site but you must wrtie first to them enclosing the money, they will email the cetificate.
The civil records are here but the church records are not near complete other than Dublin and Kerry. See https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/
As Anns name reminded me of a Scottish friend I tried Scotland for a marriage and in April 1856 a Peter McKenna married an Anne McCallum in Argyll, any chance this is them, I would like to see the certificates of any child born after 1864 to ascertain if the mothers name is recorded or on the new site
The parish registers are here unfortunately the date of ALices birth is not given so you have to read the entire year to see if it is there. http://registers.nli.ie/

Hello Pat,
Thanks for your reply....yes, I had sent a similar inquiry to the general iro message board a few years ago and you had replied there with a few questions...I totally missed your reply until a week or two ago and I replied there ....I figured that I should inquire directly to the St. Peter's board in the hopes that someone local would see the inquiry....
There's never been any indication of a connection to Scotland regarding the marriage of Peter and Ann/Anne...I had hoped that Ann's home parish might be close by in Meath or Monaghan but so far no luck....As yet, I don't know whether Peter or Ann/Anne or a few of their children remained in Eire, died in Eire, or emigrated....I only know of the ones who died emigrate..
I had found that John, my great grandfather and James his older brother attended the Presentation School and were listed in the mid 1860's as students there....I've also found my great grandfather's military record having served in the Royal Irish Rifles in 1883-1884 before coming to Holyoke, Massachusetts....
Just no indication of any of the family by 1901....
Thanks for your help...

Hi KerryOkie
just came across your query again while searching somethng else and since Wednesday last the civil records or at least most of them come with an image of the entry so you search the name and get the result and click on image below, the 1875 Aice is yours.See https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/ Mother Ann Connachy. This site for RC only commences with civil registration in 1864.
Recently I did a search for someone on this site re Conachy and varients, in that case the name came up in Faughart I think, south west of Dundalk, also someone I am in occassional email contact about that part of Louth near Dundalk gave me a list of names including Connachy, she is in Australia.
I could not locate a marriage for Peter and Ann circa 1857 but found a marriage for Ann McKenna to another McKenna in Newry in 1890 on above but only link is father Peter, (Dead) Labourer. Checked Peter McKenna died Drogheda between 1875 Alice birth and 1890 and found 3, unfortunately no image so no address without purchase of cert, maybe if we wait awhile. Only Peter death in 1887 is possibly him as other two children.
Only other Ann marriage in Monaghan had Peter father that I found but he was a farmer and I am assuming someone in Rope Walk was not a father.Something is nagging at me that some man was in email contact with me about McKenna in Ropewalk, from New York as I discussed it with a local historian but there are too many McKennas here to check, Will go back on my mail box later, hopefully it will be somewhere.
