Using the CG Establishment Books in ADM 175 I pieced together an earlier(?) Andrew Manning CG service record. (father of the 1825 Andrew Manning?)
Nominated to the CG Service on 29 Sept 1831 at Portsea RN(?), Nom. No 3006. He was originally posted to Birling Gap, but does not look to have taken the appointment, because on 3 Oct 1831 he is at Holywell (175/5 pdf 267).
17 Jan 1832 to North Arran (175/16 - 211)
11 Sept 1839 to Cashleh Bay (175/18 - 198)
9 Oct 1839 to Old Head (175/18 - 226)
10 May 1844 to Rosscolleigh/Mynish (175/19 - 232)
22 March 1850 to Achilbeg (175/19 - 246)
18 Oct 1855 to Kilcummin
29 July 1856 discharged to pension on £18/4/- per annum.
While at Mynish he was issued with a Seamen's Ticket No. 133,952. This has his date of birth as 3 July 1807, Portsmouth. 5' 6'' tall, fair complexion, sandy hair and grey eyes, crucifix on rt arm, first went to sea as a Boy in 1825, served 5 years 5 months in Royal Navy.

Phil,
Statutory birth registration only started in Ireland in 1864 so you won’t get a birth certificate for William born in 1855. You might find his baptism but to do that you need to know his denomination. If he was RC then the bad news is that Achill RC parish have no records earlier than 1868. If he was Church of Ireland (ie Anglican) then the parish baptism records start in 1854 so you might just scrape in. There’s a copy in the RCB library in Dublin and another on microfilm in the National Archives in Dublin. Neither set is on-line, as far as I am aware, and a personal visit is generally required to view them.

My great grandmother was a child of Andrew MANNING of Achill, Mayo. I have his death certificate (d 17 Jan 1894 at kilo an, Aran isles) which states he was a retired coastguard.
Andrew (about1812-1894) married Winifred MULLEN (1813-1889) . I know def of two children; Mary Anne ( my great grandmother) born about 1845 married Terence Sheridan and Ellen born about1853 married Edward Wallace. I had suspected a son named Andrew as an Andrew MANNING was named asinformant on one of Mary Anne's daughters birth in 1865, and as a sponsor on Winifred Mullen ( daughter of Ellen's) baptism. Both of these women also had sons they named Andrew.
I am currently not at home but I would like to compare notes once I return.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Regards Corrinne ( ps, have you had your DNA tested?)
