Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you.

Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi There - I notice that you have this Derrig Family on Ancestry and that you have quoted details for the 1901 and 1911 Census. You seem to have extensive research done, so I will attempt to add to it for you.

The other records that are available online are: (Links to Derrig Names found)

Griffiths Valuations 1850's (also show Maps to locate townland of origin) - (Michael Derrig)

    http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=doNam…

The Tithe Aplotments (1823-37) are now online)

I have been searching for you name but not having much luck, I know that Derrew at present starts at Ballyheane

and ends up in Balintober near Partry, I have searched surrounding townlands and phonetically for the name.  You may be able to use this link.

This link to Townlands (1871) may also be of help

It is probably for Ancestors that stayed at home that you are searching for.

These are some links to Cemeteries that might be help

    http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&GSvcid=148645&CRid=2355970&pt=Ballyovey%20Cemetery&

There are a lot of Derrig's here, Make sure you check each (3) page

    http://www.irishgraveyards.ie/search.php?lastname=Derrig&firstname=&add…

Cemeteries like, Tourmakeady, Churchfield, Partry, and Killawalla,  are close to Derrew and Aughagower would be just about approx 10miles away.  After the 1890's some families were given lands by the Congested District Boards in neighbouring villages or other counties, to ease poverty and encourage home industry.

This is also a nice site for researching the Ballinrobe and surrounding areas

There may be someone local to the area on our Mayo Genealogy Group Facebook page you could ask to join and post your query directly there as well.

Hope there is something helpful here, Best Regards with your research,

  • Thank you for your time and obvious considerable effort  to reply to my posting. I will spend some time to go through each one. My husband's grandmother Bridget O'Halleran, is also from the same area- around Ballinrobe, so this will also help me find her side also. Thank you again!!!!   Roni
