Gail:
Unfortunately, the baptismal records for Kilmovee civil parish start in June 1854. https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0137 Marriages start in 1824
I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland for younger siblings of Patrick but I did not find any records where the father was Michael Grady from Cuilmore (Kilmore).
I did find a Michael Grady/Mary Breheny marriage in Kilmovee on November 22 1838. Also a February 14 1831 marriage for a Michael Grady/Mary Morrelly in Kilmovee. Neither record shows a townland. Likely one of the two marriages is for your Michael Grady.
I looked for death records and found a likely record for Michael in 1877. See ninth record
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu…
See second record for a likely death record for Mary. Martin O'Grady was the informant.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Roger,
Thank you so much for your work on this! After having to cancel my 2020 trip to County Mayo for research on my mother's side of the family (her mother was first generation) I am now headed there in May/June 2022. I just really needed to find a place to start! Thanks again.

You can visit the Cois Tine Heritage Center in Kilmovee. It is located right next to the Church of the Immaculate Conception.

Hi Gail,
Just skimming the messages and spotted your enquiry. Have you got any further with your research as it's been a while since you posted this message?
My great great grandfather, Edward, was a brother of Patrick Grady & I certainly can give you some information on Patrick and Edward. I can also point you in the right direction when it comes to visiting Mayo in 2022. Patrick has descendants still in Culmore near Kilkelly as he married three times having been widowed twice. I would agree with Roger as regards Patrick's father having died on 26th April 1877. This is correct. As for Patrick's mother the one Roger mentioned for a Mary in 1873 is a possibility but I have yet to work out who Martin O'Grady, the informant, was to make a definite link. With limited records prior to 1865 it is very hard, without family information passed down the generations, to be sure of some information but I've learnt to persevere as often it pays off.
This is Patrick's death record - see third entry - 4371067.pdf (irishgenealogy.ie). It can be confusing because there is some alternating between Grady and O'Grady as well as Culmore and Kilmore.
I can also help you with the birth records for the children you mentioned and the five children Patrick had by his third wife as well as his marriage records for his three marriages. I know the children you mentioned all emigrated to America as did three of the children by his third wife, Catherine. I believe from my research that Bridget, Edmond & Patrick all went to their maternal uncle, James Murphy, Luzerne, Pennsylvania. The other three children also went to Luzerne, Pennsylvania. However I have so much information it would be better to narrow down what you need. It is though still a work in progress.
If you are a descendant of either Bridget, Edmond or Patrick I am absolutely delighted to connect with you & help with your research.

BL,
Thank you! Patrick and Mary Murphy Grady had a son Edmond, born in 1872. He is my great grandfather. He emigrated to the US in 1891and shows in the 1900 census as boarding with the James Murphy family in Hanover, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. I was questioning whether James was family, but could find no reference to Edmund as a "nephew". If I have the correct emmigration data he was noted on the ship manifest with the name "Edw". The name "Edward" is listed on his death certificate and all documents for his children, but his headstone has the name "Edmund". !! Edward married Anna Cusick in 1903 and they had 6 children. Their fourth, Catherine, is my maternal grandmother. He died in Ashley, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania in August, 1934, having worked as a coal miner until his death.
Through obituaries and the like, I have been able to find most of Edward's half-siblings from his father's second marriage to Catherine Loftus. Here I found the confusing Grady/O'Grady change as well. Edward's half-brother James died in Ashley in April, 1934. His death certificate (as well as the newspaper obituary) showed the last name as "Grady" however someone later altered the actual death certificate and changed the last name to "O'Grady". James worked for the same coal mining company as did Edward/Edmund.
As to the "Martin" name, all I've been able to find is that Patrick and Kate Loftus gave that name to two of their children as middle names, John (born 1886) and Mark (born 1895).
Bridget, who we knew as "Bea" (but also called "Bessie") never married. She lived until 1962, at the ripe old age of 90. I have Patrick passing away in 1932 in Ireland. His name doesn't appear in any of the obituaries in the US, I'm assuming because he died before the others.
I would love to get your help! Let me get Roger's data and your data above loaded into Ancestry and my written research and I will be back in touch. Is there some way we can take this off-line?
Thanks again,
Gail
