Hi All.

I have possible information that my Great Grandparents Patrick Hannan & Mary Alcock were married in a Church Marriage in Sligo 1845. They had sons John,James,Patrick & Martin. They emigrated to England prior to 1865.

I require help in finding what parish the marriage took place in and indeed if they are my great grandparents. Places mentioned in family stores include Shrule, Sroove, and Monsteraden.

Any help and advice greatly appreciated.

Regards  Leo Hannan

  • Hi Leo,

I'll admit first of all that I am a genealogist for a living but I do try to assist people on sites like this and do have a connection with Sligo.

Alan and Mary did indeed get married in Sligo in 1845 in the RC parish of Kilfree. You can buy a transcript of the record from www.rootsireland.ie

As to whether you are related is a much more involved investigation. The places you mention - the first is in Mayo and the others in Sligo. I can only see one Patrick Hannon on an 1858 property record so, you should be able to locate the position of the house.

    good luck

  • Hi Peter.

May I first thank you for taking the time to respond to my enquiry. When you said in your answer "Alan & Mary got married in Sligo" Did you mean Patrick & Mary as per my original request.

Could I also ask you to give me a quote (bearing in mind your profession)  for an investigation into my Irish Ancestry and the process for that to happen?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Regards

  • I do apologise Leo - yes it should read Patrick.

Certainly, we could retrieve a copy of the marriage entry which would make an interesting souvenir but I think you wanted a little more than that.

If you go to my site here www.irishfamilyancestry.com/Assessment-Form.aspx and complete the Assessment Form I can give you an honest assessment fo the chances of success of subsequent research including identifying if these are your ancestors - that's free. You can then decide if you want to go ahead. There are more details about the service and fees on the Services page.

    kind regards

  • Good Afternoon Peter.

I have completed the assessment form and hopefully you will be able to make sense of it.

I will be in Mayo about the 20th August at the Harlequin Hotel in Castlebar and if you are anywhere near there perhaps we could meet up.

    Regards
