I am coming to Ballinrobe, Mayo this summer (2018)to look for my father's family.  My 2nd great Grandfather, Martin Feeney (born 1830 in Ireland) came to the United States before 1851.  I found his marriage certificate in PIttsfield, Massachusetts.  He was married 6 Oct 1851 to Margaret Riley.  On the marriage certificate it stated that Martin Feeney's father was Anthony Feeney.   The name was spelled "Feeny" and through the generations, it changed to Feeney.

I also found an advertisement in the Irish American magazine which stated:  "Of Martin Feeney, son of Anthony Feeney and Sarah Murphy, native of Ballybackough, near Shrule, County Mayo, Ireland, sailed from Galway about 14 years ago (magazine was dated 1862, which would be approx. 1848 that he left Ireland), supposed to be in Maysville, State of Kentucky.  Any information of him will be thankfully received by his sister, Judy Feeney, by writing to her in care of Rev. George Montgomery, Catholic Priest, Wednesbury, Staffordshire, England; or send his address to James Boyle, 168 East 24th Street, New York City.  Kentucky papers please copy."- 22 March 1862

I found an 1836 Tithe Applotment book with an entry for an "Anthy Feeny" in the townland of Kilmackdaugh, which is down the road from Ballybackagh.  He seemed to share the property with a "Thady Noone". The farms on either side were used by Edm A. Murphy and the other side was Thady Murphy.   Keeping in mind Martin's mother was Sarah Murphy this seemed to connect.

I found a death record for an Anthony Feeney in Clifden, Galway.  This Anthony Feeney was born 1805 and died in 1899 at the age of 94.  I do not know if this is for sure our Anthony Feeney.

The history of Martin here in the United States after his marriage to a Margaret Riley in Mass. is that he had a son by the name of Charles Feeney in 1853.  Charles was born in Massachusetts but moved to Jessup/Olyphant, Pennsylvania.  He married Mary Mullen in 1876.  Charles Feeney and Mary Mullen had 8 children, one of which was my grandfather, James Thomas Feeney.

James Thomas Feeney married Mary Flynn and they had 7 children, one was my father James Edward Feeney.  This is my link to Ancestry: https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/tree/13360032/family.            Thank you for any help you could give me, Joan
