Byrne Family Details Required

I assume your Byrnes were RC. Unfortunately, RC records for Toomore parish start around 1870 except for marriages some marriage records from 1833-1840.

In the 1833-40 records do you have any for Laurence Givvons of Toormore West and wife Alicew ???

He was born about 1785 so could fall into those years for marrige.

Thank you Roger, MY great great grandfather Laurence has become an enigma .

I know he lived there and had 4 children and have so much on them . family coming down

Thank you for that Roger - yes they were RC.  Where John Byrne got married I do not know.  At some time he moved over to the Wolverhampton area in England as a bricklayer and may have been working on the canal building programme.  He had three children in Wolverhampton before moving back to Ireland for a while.  Whilst back in Ireland he had three more children, one of whom became my Great Grandmother Mary Byrne who married Thomas Gavagan from Dublin in Darwen Lancashire in 1875.  Mary was born in as she put it Calassar on the 1901 census but then she could not write so I think she meant Killasser which I understand is in Mayo.  This would have been about 1857.

Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie has baptisms for Killasser parish starting in 1848. They do have an 1858 baptism of a Mary Byrne-- father John and mother Mary. You need to pay to get the actual data from the record.

Thank you Roger - can I ask another favour?  Mary had a sister who emigrated to America and married a man called Duffy who also travelled to Darwen from Ireland.  Mary's sister was called Bridget and she was also born at about the same time - slightly later I believe in Kilasser.  Is there a baptismal record for Bridget, and if so how do I go about paying for these certificates?

I could not locate a baptismal record for Bridget in the Killasser records. I went as far as 1868. You need to go to the Roots website www.rootsireland.ie and register. You have to purchase credits to see the data on the record for Mary. Might cost around 5 euros. Basically, each county has heritage centers where they maintain baptisms and marriage data that they transcribed from local churches. Roots Ireland centralizes all of the local data into one data base. You won't see the actual baptismal entry just the data transcribed from the record.
