My great-great-grandfather was Bartholomew FitzSimons.  He was a blacksmith on Suffolk Street in Kells.  He married Bridget Tormay and they had eleven children.

His second son, James Joseph FitzSimons, emmigrated to the US, and settled in Newark, NJ. He married Anne Marie Gillick, and they had six children, including my grandmother, Helen Loretta FitzSimons.

Bartholomew's fifth child, Charles Stewart Parnell FitzSimons emmigrated to the US, and settled in California. He is the father of Maureen FitzSimons, or better known as her screen name, Maureen O'Hara.

    Seeing that there doesn't appear to be a Kells contact person, I'll taken a look at your request. I'm from a neighbouring parish to Kells. I know the town but not it's families.

    I gathered some info today when I was in Kells. As some of it concerns living people, please drop an e-mail into Moynalty@gmail.com and I'll duscuss all there with you.

  • Hi Catherine, I am Ellen Keane Ganssle’s uncle.  My mother was Helen Loretta FitzSimons Grady (1906-1994), daughter of my GF, James Joseph FitzSimons (1880-1941), who was the son of my GGF Bartholomew FitzSimons (1851-1926) and GGM Bridget Tormey (1858-1921).  My GGF Bartholomew FitzSimons was the son of my GGGF Patrick FitzSimons (1814-1874) and Mary Clarke (?-?).  My GGM Bridget Tormey was the daughter of my GGGF, James Tormey (1832-1858) and Bridget Smith (1832-?).  We have no information on ancestors further back. 

    The Suffolk Street family property is owned by descendants of Stephen Francis FitzSimons (1900-1961), my GF James Joseph FitzSimons’ younger brother.

    We would appreciate any assistance you could provide to trace our ancestors further back than my great great grandparents.  Thank you.
